At least Rogan has come out and clarified his statements - not that many will ever read or hear them - the damage is already done:

And even if you don’t have any symptoms, you’re propagating the outbreak, because it is likely that you, even if you have no symptoms, may inadvertently and innocently then infect someone else, who might infect someone who really could have a problem with a severe outcome.”​

@adrianp89 here are your hospitalization rates, but the point is that the vaccine data is saying, if you get covid, it won't be anywhere near as severe, and with the clinical trial data, it prevents you from going to hospital. CDC data shows that there have been 7157 break through cases of covid within the vaccinated population (87 million) - pretty impressive.

Based on what he defines as young people, he is almost right... under 18 is almost non-existent. 2.5% for the largest population group is pretty darn low as well. Of course, as I see commonly these days, this graph is skewed. Let's see 18-35 and 35-49.

If someone can provide raw data sources, I can mock up some more leveled dashboards.

almost non existent is not the same as they "don't exist. period. end of discussion". I never said they were the bulk of patients. I just commented that we have been noticing an increase in younger patients. Which made him call me stupid. I try not to take offence from keyboard trolls, but the degree of hubris was too much for me to stay quiet.

Not sure what the point of your very authoritative emphatic statement was, but it is inaccurate.

Kids getting vaccinated will help reduce the spread of the disease. As someone in heathcare I assume you know this. Also, kids are MORONS. They'll just hear "youth don't need a vaccine". Even though the statement is not what the CDC is saying. The more people vaccinated, the less we will spread the disease. Also, kids with co-morbidities should get vaccinated (working with their providers) - and its not like we don't have a lot of overweight, asthmatic etc. kids in this country.

Selflessness - wishing for more of this in far more people.

My company sent emails saying that they want to return to the office soon and they require that people either 1. have the vaccine or 2. recently recovered from covid. I know of 1 person in the office who swears that he will leave the company if they make him get the vaccine. I asked him "why?" and he cited some really crazy sources. Good riddens. I prefer to have coworkers with actual critical thinking.

In other news, NYC mayor said that we will open 100% on July 1st. What in the actual ****? The vaccine is available for all NYers and we should be open today. They've been moving the goalposts since the lockdown started in march 2020 and the city is getting killed by these policies. I'm hoping that i'm still employed in a few months. The policies are worse than the virus!

Edit: I cant even go to the DMV. They have this stupid reservation program going. I got a reservation for June to register my trailer and get a NY license haha insane! I went to the DMV and snuck past the 3 gatekeepers who kept asking where my reservation is and telling people where to sit. A whole lotta crap to make people feel safe.

Yeah everyone is going to Florida haha I was in Brazil for the winter and they didn't have these crazy things. We had 2 things to worry about: 1. wear your mask and 2. they will check your temperature at every store. Thats it! None of these wacky policies that NY has. And for people that don't know what its like here in NY, you really have to come visit to see what i'm talking about. Off the top of my head, they still closed 1/2 the streets in jackson heights so people can social distance outside. But everyone bought cars so now there is bad traffic. And the traffic is worse because all the restaurants built buildings in the street so they can "eat outside". It's the dumbest thing you will ever see.

Hey, two questions I've been wondering about - particularly directed to the "oh, hell no" folks:

1. If getting a vaccine because it will protect others (and you but let's ignore that for now) isn't enough motivation, what - if anything - would move the goal post for you?
I've heard a number of proposals lately (access to cruises, concerts, cash, etc. for those that are vaccinated). Will time passing help? Full vs EUA approval?

2. For those that object to a "vaccine passport" or similar, why? Because the government will "track" you? To that I have to ask: If you have been vaccinated, what if it gets you access to things like international travel? You have to admit we need something that's a little harder to forge than the shitty little piece of paper you get after vaccination. How many that object have, say, a driver's license? An SSN? (I've seen comparisons to 'scarlet letters' but honestly, IMO the situation would only be analogous if we made people who did NOT get vaccinated identify themselves. Which, thinking about it, might actually be a good idea...)

The prerequisite for said board is any thread that would push normally jovial members to start calling each other stupid or make other personal attacks. The board should have a giant warning label on it alerting the 95% of those that come here to talk about actual jet boat related subjects to avoid it like the plague.

Yeah, I know that this is the “Off Topic“ board but threads that go sideways should have their own special board.

And, for the record, I’m going to get vaccinated as soon as I can but thats my choice. I‘m not going to call those that have a different opinion than I do crack pots or that they’re just plain stoopid.

I am loving it. My neighbor just sold his home, the exact same model as mine, for twice what I paid for mine in 2018. His was a little nicer on the inside, I have a much nicer pool. Normalcy Bias.

I’m not sure what you mean by normalcy bias in this context. I think the biggest normalcy bias going on is that a lot of people still think covid is no big deal after millions of deaths and if we just ignore it we’ll be fine and get back to our old lives.

If people outright rejected the medical fields’ views on this topic and trusted God or whatever else they believe in I’d understand more. I can’t understand this crazy phenomenon where a lot of people are willing to believe that the majority of doctors, pharmaceutical experts, etc are putting out biased and unsafe information, but a few random doctors with fringe views on the internet are the trustworthy ones with all the correct answers.

Scientific and medical consensus has gotten us a long way as a species. Not everything is a conspiracy or politically motivated.

Spent the evening with my brother who had friends in from Germany. Husband and wife. They came over and are spending a Month here just do they can get the vaccine. Already got first dose at CVS. He said Germany has completely screwed up the vaccine roll out. Said it’s a shit show over there. Been in lockdown since Nov.
