The Vaccine

@Lawman25, glad you have stayed healthy while serving your community. Thank you for that service.

Clearly you have not seen what it is like to die of CoVID. I had some similar symptoms with vaccination but would be happy to take it over and over again.
On the contrary, I have. Also, having been in the military and now as a police officer, I've seen people die from all sorts of things. I also watched my dad die, not from Covid, but from sickness just the same, it was horrible and 5 years later it still bothers me. I was speaking from my personal perspective alone, given the survival rate, me being a healthy adult, and what I would do if I had to do it over again. I was not speaking for anyone else. I started off by saying I believe in freedom of choice. Lastly, only time will tell how effective these vaccines will be and if there will be any long term side effects.

So I got my first dose of Pfizer March 13th at a VA hospital in the Chicago area, my second dose was April 3rd. After reading some other comments in this thread, I want to preface this by saying this vaccine should be a choice. If you want to get it great, if not, that's ok too, and nobody should have their rights taken away if they choose not to, like traveling or attending sporting events. I have a nephew with Cystic Fibrosis who I haven't been able to see for a year because of this virus, after discussing with my sister, his mom, who is also a doctor, I decided to get the vaccine so I could see my nephew. Otherwise, I would have never gotten it. I'm young and healthy, I'm not at all worried about Covid. Also, I'm a police officer, I'm around a lot of strangers everyday, and during this past year I've never gotten Covid, never been sick at all.
Now to the side-effects- About 5 hours after getting my first dose I got a headache. Day 2 I had body aches, soreness around the injection site, fatigue, and a 102 degree fever. By day 3 the fever had gone away but headache, body aches, and fatigue remained. To sum it up, in the 3 weeks from the first dose to my second, there were maybe 4 days I felt normal. 3 days before my second dose I got a horrible head cold and upper-respiratory tract infection. I was miserable. I started a Z pack(nice to have a sister that is a doctor and can just call in whatever you want) the day before my second dose. I have taken Z packs before and never not felt completely fine after 3 days of starting, my wife generally has to remind me I still have to take the remaining doses. It's been 3 weeks since that head cold, respiratory infection began, and I still don't feel 100%. I've never in my life had the flu or anything else that my body didn't just beat on it's own or with antibiotics within 4 days.
Back to the specifics of the second dose- this time around I took low-dose aspirin, vitamin-c, vitamin-d, zinc, and hydrated like I was back in Iraq beforehand and afterwards. Other than the existing symptoms I was just talking about, nothing on the day of the injection. Day 2 the aches and fatigue kicked in, and of course injection site soreness. I had this really strange soreness in my right hand fingers. It felt like they were swollen but they weren't. After a week the soreness and aches went away, but the fatigue remained. Now, 2 1/2 weeks post second dose I am back to my normal energy levels.
So, that's my experience. If I had to do it over again, I wouldn't get it, not after what I went through, it's not worth it for a virus I have over a 99% chance of surviving if I did get it. Not to mention, I still have to wear a mask and do all the other bullshit I had to before I got the vaccine. Lastly, last week the CEO of Pfizer said it's highly likely a booster shot will be needed in the future, like the 12 month range. They just keep moving the goalposts
That sucks you had such a bad time with it. Maybe I missed it, is there any chance you just had covid?

Yes, my wife caught that nasty head cold, too. Just after her first dose of the vaccine, as luck would have it. That can happen.

And I also agree that it sucks - terribly - that a global pandemic has occurred during our lifetime... but, I have come to terms with this reality. In other words, I really don’t believe there is a ‘they’ involved in moving said ‘goalposts’. Rather, our best medical experts are calibrating the recommended approach based on the most recent data - and staying aligned with the strategy of short term protective measures in the interest of long term health and well-being for all.

Hang in there!

No judgement here brother. Only men that have seen battle can know the true horrors of war. Thanks for sharing your story.

Thank you for your service in both the military and as a police officer. Sucks that you had confluence of events that made it for a hard time with the vaccine.

My daughter had this "cold" that is going around....we were certain she had covid! Trouble breathing, fever, aches, chills, headache etc.....she said she felt worse than she ever has! Tested for covid (twice), strep, flu.....all negative....chaulked up to sinus infection and "cold" going around.

Monday she got Pfizer shot #1 with zero side effects.

This afternoon I get Pfizer #2 so we'll see how it goes.

Not melted yet.. ? 19hrs on and pretty much the same as last time. Decent charlie horse in the lower delt and a little tired (but that might be partially due to the 4.5hrs of sleep). Haven't bothered to check temp. No pain/fever meds and regular hydration. At this point I don't expect anything to change significantly and I figure it will just gradually go back to normal over the next day or two.

Question: Could there be/is there any correlation between the effects of receiving the shot and if you actually caught COVID? Could it be an indicator "of sorts" of what you could expect with COVID?

My son, who caught COVID, had no symptoms (ASymptomatic). When he was eligible he got vaccinated. He had no side effects.
My other son, who never had COVID, was vaccinated and had no side effects.

People who've previously had covid tend to have more symptoms with the vaccine. But no known correlation with how the vaccine hits you and how you would respond to covid.

FWIW, out of curiosity I had my doc tack on an antibody test during regular lab work before I ever got the vacs and it came back negative. Plus I know I'm not allergic to the polyethylene glycol component they apparently use in (I believe) both the Pfiz and Mod vacs (no idea about the others). Also with lower WBC/Neutrophils to start with, perhaps contributed to my relatively mild side-effects post-vac. Lots of variables and unknowns ultimately, so just speculation..

When you trust the government on your vaccine but then find out that they're using the USPS to monitor social media...

It am uncertain as to what you are attempting to convey and why it would be relevant.

Are you making a political statement?

Ha! This is laughable. I mean really the USPS???? These fuckers can barely keep their own shit above water much less pull something like this off. The poor dude delivering my mail using a clapped out 1984 POS K car smoking down the road and I'm to be worried they are monitoring social media posts as a watch dog???!!!! Let me turn my head while I spit my drink out..... Gimmie a break.

don't you see! They only want you to THINK they can't deliver mail on time so you don't suspect them. Wake up sheeple!

did I do that right?

That is a super bizarre story. The post office is self funded and consistently on the verge of failing, how do they have a single extra resource to engage in something like this.

Im not trying to be a conspiracy theorist here but the only thing that’s changed recently with them is $10 billion in loans as part of the cares act negotiated by the Treasury department of the Trump administration.

Back on topic, I’m about 30 hours out from pfizer shot 2 and no symptoms. My arm hurts worse than last time but I also switched arms.

My wife went at the same time and she had some minor chills and aches last night and today but nothing major.

That thought has crossed my mind too, and I just don't know. I would think no since other people have had the same symptoms and also what is the likelihood I was fine during the whole covid era and only caught it after getting the vaccine? I suppose stranger things have happened.

I have a nurse friend who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 the second time right after getting vaccinated. A few other nurses on her shift had the same experience. They must have had an exposure event in the week or two before their vaccination. Her CoVID-19 symptoms were more severe on her second round and much more severe than what you described.

I recently recovered from covid last week and I was googling about the vaccine because I had an appointment tomorrow. Common sense prevailing, there is little to make me believe that I need a vaccine after recently recovering from covid. I'll wait for more research.

My experience with covid was really shitty. I never had the flu before and so its the 1st time I had ever experienced something of this severity. Roughly 5 days of feeling shitty and taking vitamins and medicine.
