My guess on the "random delivery" of boats is that Yamaha is delivering boats to dealers as they are able to finish them, and are delivering off the "original" 2021 order list - EVERY dealer had their original order list cut in HALF. So they look at the original lists and see - we cut an AR190 from this dealer....send them this one. I'll bet they have a number of partial 2021 boats that they are only a few parts from finishing-and are just waiting for those last parts. We'll probably see a few more random 2021s arriving.
Just my pure speculation - as that is what I'd do. None of these dealers are ever going to call Yamaha and say "take this boat back-I can't sell it".
From what I've heard, the 2021s are all done shipping. There is something to do with shipping them by a certain date or they would have to badge them a 2022. Unfinished boats probably had components pulled and hulls crushed.

those numbers are bullshit. These dealers should be ashamed. My 21 255xd came out to 97k out the door, including installed snap cover, and the galvinized trailer, and "coast guard kit"
My dealer prep/delivery was 2450. 1250 snap cover/install, 399 coast guard kit, 249 doc 174 reg/title. Tax in nj is 3.5 on boats.
Yeah... my options are limited. Shopped for a used one for over a year. So I either eat the costs or stick with my 226 Hurricane. I’m pushing forward with the 255XD, and excited about it. Not thrilled with the mark ups.... weird times.
Can't 100% confirm, but it would be stupid business practice not to. No reason to crush hulls or anything when the boats are identical just painted different. Some are even same color just different graphics.
Just got a call from my dealer to put in my color choice on my deposited 252SD. got excited for a moment until he told me that my deposit I put in 4 months ago has actually been bumped to a 2023. He said he was asking color just in case several deposits were cancelled.
They have 9 total deposits for 252 SD's.
Guessing allotments might be a little low. And I am buying from the largest dealer or at least that's what their hold message says.
Thinking happy thoughts as I wait. Congrats to all of you who have yours coming in...

You may also consider keeping an eye out for a used 2021 252SD to come up for sale. No differences between the 2021s and 2022s except color changes and increased price (and the 2022 model potentially lost the solar charger...that question still seems to be outstanding).
EDITED TO ADD: the 2022 model year did indeed lose the solar charger.

Apologies, but I don't yet have a Yamaha boat, but how is this done? On most fiberglass boats, the HIN is molded right into the hull itself by the manufacturer. Is this not true of Yamahas?

I was wondering the same thing. Not sure if it's just that their prototype boat didn't have one or if they really stopped putting them on the 252SE and 252SD?
I was wondering again about whether or not they took the solar panel chargers off the 252SE and 252SD and I remembered that someone had previously posted pictures of their new 252SD. I found that post (below) and when zooming in to the bimini frame there doesn't appear to be a connector wire coming out so I think they really did remove the solar panels from the 2022s. @Julian, any way to get confirmation from Yamaha?
