Bimini June 23-28 2019

@JayZ2012, RW has always had floating docks. Many of those were destroyed in the hurricane at the end of 2017 and as far as I know they have not rebuilt. They would not rent slips to JetBoaters who stayed at the Hilton last year. In past years their slip rates were over $100 per night.
Are you saying that even if you stayed there you still could not rent a slip?

Just called RW and slip fees would be 160-180 per night plus a resort fee of 12.50 per person per night.

This was not true on the June trip. There was at least one boat that I personally know of that stayed at RW and slipped their boat there.

can we get 4 boats to a slip. lol

Probably close. But they would probably bitch about it. Doesn’t seem like they like to catered a small boat groups

That's crazy high IMO. @Gofish206 stayed there but I believe he may have reserved a slip from an owner off VRBO if I'm not mistaken. Something like this https://www.vrbo.com/7184981ha but I might be mistaken. It's going to be hard to have the set up like the group has had at the Sands because the marina is perfect for our size group. Hopefully it gets worked out and group discounts will continue.

There were JetBoater(s) who could not get slips at RW in 2018 and were planning to keep their boats far away.

That may have changed. On my one trip up there to drop ferry passengers off a few slips appeared to be open but some of those slips are privately owned.

Last year there were JetBoater(s) who stayed at the RW Hilton and were told that there was no slip availability.

I talked to one of the RW harbor masters about that in perhaps 2015. At the time RW was pretty much empty. They were unwilling to offer any group discount on slips but did say we could put multiple boats in slips. That works well for the ski groups who rent a whole I would guess 60 foot slip and stack all their skis in there. For us we would perhaps get two or three boats in a slip paying for the entire length.

When I called they said you pay per foot with a 30 foot minimum. So I imagine if you put two boats in together, they would charge you for 48 feet and so on.

I can tell you shelter cove charges 30ft minimum and they dont add boat length together even though fit in same slip.

I have had friends who have rented docks from private owners via VRBO over at RWB with no issue.
The other Plus with The Sands was their understanding if there was a small craft advisory and the ability to move the reservation without penalty, most of the private homes you would have to have travel insurance just incase.

We may see the rental pool reopen at Bimini Sands in coming months. Roberts is unlikely to want to continue paying Peter's staff when the marina is not making payroll and condo owners who expect rentals to pay expensive HOA fees will either not pay or tire of paying out of pocket. The best outcome for us, the condo owners and Roberts would be for the HOAs to take over operation of the marina and all common facilites.

We were on the June trip last year (which left a day early due to perfect crossing conditions).

Bimini Sands would not let us check in early even with advance notice (later finding our condo was not even occupied). We stayed at RW for the 1st night (wish it was the whole trip).

We made reservations for room and slip at RW before crossing and checked in with no issues. Pursuit Boats fling group was there and had a large number of boats.

I will stay at RW for all future trips if I can (if not N Bimini but not going back to BS). It’s still Bimini (everyone on island time) but RW is Hilton so at least I feel there is a reputable brand I can work with if there is an issue.

I was overcharged for my Bimini Sands slip and there were many other problems (discussed in other threads) but no A/C was the kicker and no option to move, no credit or refund.

The bugs on South Bimini are horrible due to the interior lake. We could not grill in the evening without being eaten alive even with spray (we grilled on the boat at RW the first night and bugs were not as bad up there).

Either way we were happy to be in Bimini, had a great time, made new friends and I would go again without hesitation. I just feel that even though a bit “cheaper” at Bimini Sands, I don’t like getting taken advantage of which I feel we were.

In 2018 we certainly were. Past years have been much better experiences. Typically there is some failure to meet promises but not intentional sabotage.

Hope they can get it turned around.

Yeah I paid 100$ last year for one night for my 19' for the floating dock directly behind the hotel. For that amount you would think it would be more organized... No its not, they locked my steering wheel and left a note saying that I wasn't registered with the dock master even though it was pre-paid. Took about an hour during checkout to get it figured out.
