I know our plan was to hit the dragon so I will still try to push for getting there vs. changing up to northern blue ridge but that is not out of the question. I have one other who is "biting" on this trip. Harley owner and good add if he goes

I really like the dragon and that area alot. Usually take a two track out of cades cove and get on, on the west end.

We’re planning Oct 3-8. For sure we’re going to camp a couple nights at lake Santeetlah. The other spots haven’t been determined yet
Would you guys care if I tagged a long for a few days of riding? I would probably just rent a house on Lake Santeelah or stay at the casino for the the first 2-3 days hit the dragon and the skiway what ever other runs you guys have planned then head back home.

I wish! soccer coaching will keep me tied up in the fall and spring for a few years.. take pics!!! :)

Id very much love to take my RS out that way, it likes twisties more than the R did.. I'm sure ill get there...
but for now its trips within a days ride.

For you Midwestern people, if you havent already. Take a ride to the "driftless" area SW WI/NW IL/NE IA... my oldest son and I on his first road trip. His Little yamaha mt03 did great and Im Quite proud of him. We are 90% sure his 2nd bike will be a Tenere 700. If you can find one haha! He enjoyed the back-BACK roads as much I do, so I might have to get something more rugged too.

I've been on the Dragon and surrounding roads several times in three different cars and on two different motorcycles. I haven't been down on my Triumph yet, but it's a goal. Unfortunately, circumstances this year haven't allowed much travel. I'll have to follow this thread for the future.20160710_151223.jpg

I would love to get out to the dragon although it would have to be at a quieter time since that place can be nuts. I don't have a sport bike any more but I now have an adventure bike (KTM 1190 R) that could still work on the dragon. I swap tires in between dirt and street.

If you are up for others joining I might be able to make this. I would probably trailer the bike up from Philadelphia.

There's nothing more I miss about home than spending the weekends on the Cherohala. We were probably up there 40 times a years, usually with a rowdy crew, back before it became so popular. I could tell stories for days. If anyone reads this and ends up that way, I 1000% recommend the short hike up Huckleberry Knob. It gives you a near 360 degree view of the Appalachians, only obstructed by Hooper's Bald. You can hike it at night, as well, if you have clear skies and a decent moon out. Shooting stars 365 days a year. Great for kids, too. The clover that grows there is massive and filled with 4 leafs. The kids can find them nearly as big as your hand with a little effort. If you have more time, Joyce Kilmer memorial forest is amazing, especially when the trillium bloom. It's not what it was before the hemlock's had to be taken down but its virgin forest with some insanely massive Tulip Poplar.
