With the buying power behind this site is there any chance to solicit Insurance companies to provide a discount to our members similar to what other organizations promote like AAA. I understand the various different needs of each member and locations but maybe allowing them to post in the vendor site with a code to use as a discount on their site?

Interesting idea....the challenge is that I think Insurance agents are often only allowed to sell within their State, so when you subdivide the membership by State, only a few have significant enough members to make this attractive to a company. But if you can find one that is interested...bring them in!

Being a Nationwide Agent we give discounts if you took the boating safety course and if you have had prior boat insurance as well as years licensed. On Motorcycle's we give any extra discount for belonging to certain motorcycle clubs. The biggest discount is of course combining your home, auto and other forms of insurance. As far as agents only writing in the state they are in, That's not 100% true. Once you pass your exam in the state you live, you can apply to other states and obtain a license from that state. The hardest state to get licensed in when not living in it is Florida.

BTW I am licensed in Maryland , Dc and VA.

Another barrier to this is the company has to file the discount with the states office of insurance regulation. Good luck with getting that done in a timely manner in Florida. It wouldn't be worth it for the companies to invest in that.

This is the business model that BoatUS uses. They route their group buy over to another vendor every so often. They have a new insurance carrier as of this year.
