Hello Members,

I ran across this boattest.com test result of my SX240 and I cannot seem to match it. I cruise at 6,000 RPM which equals about 31MPH on my boat. Boattest.com notes 37mph for the same 6,000 RPM on my 2014 SX240. Do you match this?

Also, can you list your normal cruise speed on a flat day?

I was talking to the boattest.com and boating magazine guys at the Yamaha media event last week. We were discussing test results....they said there are so many variables that these tests are really just a guide. Temperature, humidity, wind, waves, load, where people are seated etc ALL impact speed and acceleration. So I wouldn't try to recreate their results too closely....use them as a guide. For example...if their top speed was 48 and you are only getting 40...then there is probably something amiss if you have the same amount of gas and people on boat and they aren't sitting in the bow and you don't have tons of gear on board and the wind isn't blowing (you get my point).....

Agree with the many variables. There are days I get 30mph+ at around 6500. Other days I need 7000 to top 30. Current, waves, load, wind. It all ads up.

Boattest has a set of their "test" results for these 24 footers that are wildly optimistic for speed and fuel efficiency.
They also publish other results (for these same boats) that are much more realistic.

Sometimes they publish the manufacturers info (if they haven't done a test yet), then they test and publish more. Yamaha often tests at their facility in Vanore TN where it is flat calm, cool with low humidity....the Boattest guy was actually complaining to the Yamaha techs about this exact point. "Stop testing the boats in the winter! No one is using these boats in those conditions"
