Falls Lake, Wake County, North Carolina

Just for the day? How long will that take?
Juat for the day.. the ramp address @LooHoo gave me puts it as 2 hours and 10 min from my house.. we wwrw gonna go to gaston but i am worried about all the trash and stuff from the rain. Gaston qpukd have been 1 hpur 15 min from me so smith mountain lake isnt bad..

I called Gaston and they actually said they were only about a foot higher than average. She said the Army Corp of Engineers regulates them pretty heavily and doesn't let them fluctuate more than a foot or so. She also said the water was fairly clear with minimal debris. No flooded ramps.

I read that too but i also read where the army core of engineers was opening the gates from kerr today to release pressure from kerr.. gaston will open their gates to to release the pressure so gaston rarely floods but afyer 8 inches of rain and kerr dumping into gaston i worry about debris... so this is a good excuse to go to another lake we wanted to try.

Hey all, went to Jordan Lake today. The lake level was way up, almost 10ft. The ramp docks were all floating and you had to wade out to the dock, water was about waist high, getting to the dock. Some of the ramps were closed so every one was ending up at the same ramp and it was really a cluster trying to get in and out. Once on the lake there was lots of debris on the lake. I saw lots of floating logs and branches. If you go, keep an eye out.
I was planning on going again tomorrow, but I think I may pass.

Yeah I went down to Jordan on Thursday to check the ramps out on the south end toward dam and party cove. It was nuts how much crap was in the water.. Trees everywhere.Looks like it could be weeks before it gets sorted out. Has anybody heard how Kerr is with debris?

Kerr is waaaay up.. we have a friend who bought a place there... they said many roads are closed due to how high the water is... and with a lake that large it has to have a lot of debris in it just from the amount of inflow. We are going to smith mountain lake tomorrow.. it missed a lot of the 8 inches we had here..... anyone else game?

Shoot, I was thinking about heading to Kerr next weekend, that may be out. I would love to go to Smith Mountain lake, but it is a little too far for me for the day. It's about 2:15 from my house. Maybe some other time?

That's where I was today, put in at New Hope Overlook, the cove did have a bunch of debris. Heading from the cove towards the dam, the little cut through on the left looked like a log jam.

Damn I am sure it was! We will be at Ferrington point tomorrow. Heading there tomorrow with friends. We will only be taking his 4 stand up skis. There will be quite a few more meeting us there.. I think they are going to put some buoys out and make a course. @bronze_10 We want to get up there but I want the water a little warmer so we can get in and enjoy the clean lake.

Remember, we've had a bunch of rain, too, but havent seen a bunch of debris - just keep your eyes peeled. Obviously, I can't speak for the entire 40-mile lake from our travels on it Friday night! I'll be looking for you guys today, and don't forget to go to the dam. And Bridgewater.

How is Falls Lake and Kerr looking now? Anyone been out? I hope to be out the first time this year on Falls this weekend. And we have a camping trip planned at Kerr Memorial Day weekend. Just looking for a status report. Thanks

I haven't yet, but I'll be on Kerr for the first time ever this coming Saturday.

I haven't been out to falls or Kerr yet, I was at Jordan yesterday and it was pretty much back to normal, so I would bet falls and Kerr are too. I am planning on hitting Kerr myself this coming Saturday.

I was out on Falls both Saturday and Sunday briefly. The ramps are all open and the lake it probably 2-3 feet above normal pool, but I didn't see any debris and lots of boats were out.

I was just out there today, it was beautiful, no crowds at all. It was my first time on Falls Lake as I usually go to Jordan. I don't think I will be able to make it out tomorrow, how crowded are the ramps on the weekend? I have heard some horror stories.

On another note, I did help some friends out with their jetski, they ingested a tow rope and thought it would be a good idea to flip it over in the lake to cut the rope out, until it started sinking. We pulled it over to the bank and pulled plugs, but it was too late. The engine compartment was completely full of water. Had to tow it back to the ramp. I am still trying to figure out how he thought that would be a good idea.
