Hit The Jackpot!!!

We will file the winnings on our 2017 tax return, my CPA said it's treated like ordinary income, might put us in a higher tax bracket, but one of my businesses had 70K in expenditures/write off's so far this year, so that will offset about half of it, we are thinking we will net around 100-110K in the end. To be on the safe side were are putting 44K in savings until we get our taxes done at the beginning of next year, it's overkill, but would rather have more than enough to pay the taxes than not enough.
Check with your accountant, you should also be able to offset the winnings with your gambling loss. I did this when I hit a 25,000 quarter payout and parlayed those winnings into landscaping & hardscaping for our front year about 10 years ago. I doubt tax laws have changed. It's worth asking about.

You can still deduct gambling losses, pretty easy to go to the ATM at the Casino and take out cash for "gambling" wink, wink!!!

Congrats Dan!

HOLY CRAP!! Congrats to you Dan.....

HOLY CRAP!! Congrats to you Dan.....

Thanks Bob, I believe the wire transfer is supposed to hit our bank account today!!! We are thinking of another Hawaii Trip next month to Celebrate our 26th Anniversary and the Big Win!!!

So hey, since we're like best buds and stuff now, I've been really thinking I need to buy a tower mounted mirror, but just haven't been able to afford one this season. I just wanted to remind you that my birthday is coming up in August.

But for real, congrats on the win. Time for a boat upgrade?

Lol thanks, keeping the same boat, it has low hours, it's immaculate and paid for.

@AZDANSX230HO Congrats on the 26 yr anniversary also, Willow and I will celebrate our 26th on Aug. 17.

What a feeling that must have been! Congrats to you!

Congrats! That must have been a heart pounding experience! Does the game stop at that point and do something??? I assume it lit up like a Xmas tree?? So cool!

Thanks!!! It was heart pounding to say the least, lot's of people crowding around me, security guards securing the area and the machine. The game stops, lights flash, and it shows the Handpay $ 212K message on a smaller screen. We received the funds this morning, so it finally became real.

I bet it has been hard tapping the breaks to keep the realization under control until the money was in your account (and even then until the tax man is paid).

I keep remembering the stories of the people who win and afterwards get escorted to the back room to be told "sorry, but the machine malfunctioned,"

I watched every second of the technician doing the verification, the local casino inspector did as well, it was nerve racking to say the least. We set aside more than enough to cover the taxes in a separate account, I hear horror stories of people who do not do this and spend more than they should have and then wind up getting in deep shit with the IRS.

Congrats Dan on your big win!

Speaking of good joo joo, can you send some my way as well? We lost our cruiser to a massive dock fire yesterday. Along with all of our friends boats too! There were 20 large cruiser type boats lost, burned and sank. Insurance has been notified and we're waiting to see what is going to happen next. You can Google Texoma marina fire and find it. We're devistated that it's all gone, but we'll move forward and see how it all shakes out. I need to play the lottery and see if can get lucky!

Wow, that is horrible news, will send some good thoughts and prayers your way. I grew up spending many Summers on Texoma visiting my Grandparents in Denison, TX, love it there, except the bugs, humidity, etc.
