Marina Rate Hikes

Ours increased the rate ~12% this year. From $1845/year to $2085.

All the increases stink...I guess they know boat ownership's skyrocketed lately and are taking advantage...

I could be totally wrong about this, but in our area marinas have been packed for years, it's just that over the last year more people are in/out of the marinas, generating more traffic and demand for on-shore services/amenities. Is it possible that the increased traffic is straining some marina's resources and they've needed to hire staff and build out to accommodate the demand?

I can’t speak to others, but they’ve only hired the mechanics here, not a lot of operations difference. They also limited drops to time slots because of Covid originally but it seems that that has become permanent. That being said, I haven’t had any limitations on when I’ve been able to put the boat in lately.

My slip at the marina went up 15% this year!

I’m now paying $400 instead of $350 per year to keep the boat on “my lake” that I share with (maybe) 10 other boaters on the Navy base where I work :)

I couldn’t resist, but sorry to you guys who are really feeling the pinch

Not even worth it in our area. They are trying to push people out for all rich people moving in, because they will pay $1000/month no problem.
I received an invoice for the quarterly payment due. On the back side, was a notice of the increase in rents due to increased cost of construction materials needed to update docks. I have witnessed many docks replaced within the last couple of years as well as new docks that were built to accommodate the increased demand. To my recollection it went up by 6% which seems a much lower increase than others have posted.

Hearing these rate increases makes me even more glad I put in a lift in the backyard a few years ago. My marina was always on the expensive side and one closed and they raised their rates last year and prolly again this year. My pay back on the lift versus dry storage there is 3 years then it’s money in my pocket. And that’s at the old rates I can’t imagine what their rates are now. And not having to wait for them to launch it and prolly COVID measures in place for launches and how many people can board. I walk in my backyard now and push a button and we are on the water! Very thankful to have this option now.

Strongly considered doing the math as to what putting the $400/mo marina fee into our mortgage would look like for a place on the water, but alas, the admiral likes our current landlocked house, so here we will likely stay…

The marinas around here are onto a new idea - actually it began a couple of years ago but has spread rapidly. If you want a summer slip - and these are getting RARE - you have to store your boat with them for the winter. It seems there are so many boaters wanting wet slips that the marinas have no problem with enacting this policy. The next step for some marinas is that they are now insisting you use their mechanics and a couple have forbidden owners from even doing routine maintenance in their yards. That is making boating pretty expensive but I guess its just supply and demand?

I agree, you have the best option. The houses on the lake have nearly doubled in price within the last two years due to demand. Available Marina slips ar

being so close to the marina, there was little advantage living in a lake community. So that rules it out as an option. Another consideration is many lake homes we looked at had many compromises at a higher price point that when compared to a landlocked home it made sense to remain. Sound like we are in the same boat.

Our marine jumped up 15% this year, they got us buy the balls. On a positive note, yesterday my wife and I were shopping and I wanted to drive buy the public launch. Freaking mad house, talk about starting your day on the lake with public launch stress. Then I looked and my wife and said "that is why we pay $1815.00 a year"

Id love to pay that a year lol. But then again, year-round boating is the trade-off. You're not TOO far north of us though, still get a good chunk of the year.

I am not floating and I launch myself. This is what I get for that price. My boat tucked in, at the launch and a pic of the courtesy dock. The marine we are at is sold out for the year. So eveybody stay away and go some place else ?

Interesting...I assume the ramp is exclusive to the marina? Just for reference ours is full service. Cat 3 hurricane rated building, drop in whenever we call in, etc.. Like I mentioned though, they've left plenty to be desired as of late. A good number of times I called to have the boat dropped only to be told their forklift was down. And I'm probably one of the less frequent users in the marina, so I can only assume how many times it's happened to those that are calling in more often.

Yes its a private launch, you can pay extra for valet service but I don't want anyone scratching my boat but me.

On a related note for anyone rack storing, Do you tip everytime they put in and takeout and if so, how much?

Our marina is currently redoing their entire setup. The price is going up as well, but it’s still more convenient than the ramp. The weather has not been nice enough to boat, or we have stuff going on nearly every weekend. We hope to be in the water by June 5th, if not I’ll save a few hours on the boat. We avoid the ramp during the busy times—we only pull it out to get gas.

I rack store my Yamaha. I tip the forklift guy well but I don’t do it every time. He runs the show around the storage racks and the slips. Usually every other visit I’ll give him $20 to $30 I was doing this on every visit and he asked me to stop. But for this I get greeted by name when I arrive and my boat gets pulled right away. They hire older high school kids and college kids to handle the lines and gas up your boat. Those guys get $5 to $10. They are waiting for me when I return to take my lines. I never have to wait for dockside assistance.

Slightly over $1200 quarterly for slip (20ft boat) and dock box, in addition to the 12 X 25 storage unit @ 147/month. Don’t want to lose slip location if I pay for seasonal. Need the storage unit as I have HOA neighborhood. Store boat in winter. Yet marina does not and will not offer a package deal for the last 4 years. May just get lift and give up storage unit.
