Ok what the heck is this? <dug this up in yard>

A few days ago while mowing i saw something in the grass that was slowly getting uncovered every week. Thought it was a piece of concrete (i have found many through the years in the ground)
So i decided to get it out so not to eventually hit it with my mower. It was on the side of a hill. So after quite a while of digging not makeing much progress. I got the tractor out and had to use the backhoe to free it from the ground.
Its old, made of steel, its hollow and was full of disgusting rusty water. Its approximately 2.5 feet in diameter, 3 feet long, any ideas?
Any ideas to what it is.

From the brackets on one end it looks like it was to stand upright. Maybe bolted down

I'm going to guess it's an old RV water heater. Has two places for heating elements, and some vents of some flavor maybe. Stands on end for use of space reasons......I'm completely making this up, I have no idea.

Funny thing was when i was digging it out Jeannine asked "could that be dangerous?" I said could be! So she got out a folding chair and sat and watched me get it out from about 50 feet away. Lol

The fittings are odd, but that size and shape are about the same size as my pressure tank. Wondering if it's for rain runoff, given the fittings, to allow it to slowly leach out.

My 89 year old Father in Law owned a propane company back in the day. He says definitely a propane tank. Oblong, steel, 2.5 x3, it all adds up to him at least.
