Should the forum allow Politics and religion etc to be discussed in posts?

Cory, if Obama or Kerry want to come on here and discuss boats, that is ok...and they can do that topless in the NSFW section...but even topless, they can't be starting a political debate. The membership makes these decisions, not any of us. If the poll here was 90%+ in favor of a political forum at this time, that would be where it went. I don't think any of us are scared of it, we are attempting to let a democracy provide direction here. If the consensus changes, we will make the changes to reflect membership desires.

@Cory
Maybe a poll similar to this one on posting porn?

My only issue with the porn is the joy I had as VP of HR of getting summoned to the CEO's office and having to explain why I was attempting to access a site with links to porn on my company computer.

I'm not sure I've seen 90% on any poll in this or any other forum

Yikes! No fun at all.

@Cory..I do not think everyone see's that. I do believe to can opt out of that option.

It is in an "access by request" only Cory, and clearly states it is NSFW (not safe for work). And to my knowledge it doesn't "link" any porn site. It is watermarked in a few of the posted images I think. I am somewhat surprised that this is an issue in any company. If they allow you to access any site not related to work, those sites could contain undesirable links and you would never know it...unless you clicked the link. Kind of like where do you draw the line, at the site, the internet, the computer? None of us want anyone to have to "explain" themselves. If those links are there, I haven't ever clicked on them, so maybe I don't know what I am talking about. I will go and look. But guys, politics, religion, porn, sex, whatever, we should be grown adults if were are in that locked forum. We need a place to put questionable stuff, and anything can get out of hand. But we are going to go with the memberships direction on this as we will attempt to do always, with a descretion given to anything found to be illegal. Morality is like politics and religion, it is a moving scale depending on who your talking to and what your political and religious affiliations are! But regardless, I am sorry if you suffered any embarrassment Cory. None of us would want that to happen to anyone. @Bruce , is there a way to have permission into a section on a home computer or phone, and not on the company computer? And on a related side of it, if you are on the companies wifi network and using your own phone, could that get you in trouble?

I wonder if he is talking about this thread.... https://jetboaters.net/threads/you-...show-the-belly-buttons.1402/page-2#post-20416

There is no "porn" but definitely some NSFW pictures. Companies can monitor pictures that are shown on your browser pretty easily, and with him being in HR he may be under ths microscope.

I think we should start a " pole" poll. EX: stripper pole, should they come standard on all boats???

OK....I'd not looked at the "Belly buttons" thread as I'm still trying to burn that first image out of my mind! That said, some of the images there are NSFW, and as such we should probably move that thread over to the NSFW forum. (action to me to move it).

As for the content of the NSFW forum....we've said nudity is ok....porn is not, but I'm not policing it. @Bruce and @txav8r hopefully you guys are managing it??? It is indeed a slippery slope.....we did have a thread discussing if we should have a NSFW section and the overwhelming response what yes, but good point, we never had an official vote on it. As we grow we will adapt.

Anyone who knows me knows I'm not afraid to talk politics! But I hated that part of YJB. I couldn't not see it as a global moderator there....so I often got sucked in. Not discussing it here is the right move from my perspective. There are other sites you can go to where you can discuss it to your hearts content....

I am not asking anyone to change anything. Just making an observation

Soooo, what'd you say?

Said it was a boat forum, had no idea it had bad stuff. Then he asked to take him along to the lake sometime.

I'm a huge fan of liberties and an excessive lack of rules.......that said....leave that subject to your nearest, dearest and closest friends. ...without the ability to decipher mood in a thread it can always stir it up fast............even with humorous intentions........I clearly recall threads in "other forums" I never opened based on the name that started it.

now I'm all tense......C'mon Midterms !!!![flag];)

Cory, I am wondering if some firewall solution has flagged our forum as a porn linking site? Can you provide any information on how the CEO determined our forum linked to porn? Thanks

Nice reply!!! Get him out on the water, he will see some of the NSFW stuff in the flesh!!! Even if you are not looking for it, it somehow seems to show up out of nowhere...:winkingthumbsup"

I have no idea, we have several hundred IT types lurking around. We have a big security push right now in response to all the security breaches lately. They are monitoring everything.

Well, there ya go.

Sorry for the unintentional mix-up, for some folks it would have turned out differently, but who knows, this could put a feather in your cap if you play your cards right!

Have a blast at the lake!
