Im sure it's not related, but, this was the first outing after I removed the flame arrestor.

Now, I had just made it to the river after running slow through heavy chop (4-6ft). The check engine light came on, I lost all power. I shut the boat down immediately. I looked in the engine compartment and there was not visible sign, smell, or heat that raised concern. I started the boat back up but it was in a check engine mode and would not go past 2200 rpm. I shut the boat down again, checked the clean out port and found no debris. Started it back up and it was fine!? Ran the rest of the day and the following day with no issues...is there a way to read what error I had? Should I be running a maintenance checklist after something like this occurs?

I think i remember somebody else having this happen after the delete. I want to say that it never happened again, and they thought it was the computer adjusting to the new airflow. I'm curious as to what happens with this, as I was debating on doing the delete myself.

Maybe the engine over reved? The RPM needle was close to 8,000.

Maybe oil sensor flaked out after being nose up for a while then having the hammer dropped?

Is there a way to read the error codes? I'd be interested to see what happened.

Yes, you can use a #YDS cable to read engine errors, diagnostics and hours.

Maybe there was something in the pump blocking the cooling inlet. The engine heated up, triggered safe mode and the debris fell out when the engine was off and cooling down.
I don't have a YDS but had my engines read at a dealer here in NCal about five years ago for $40 per engine. The report came back with every alarm that each engine threw since being put into service.

Interesting, but I agree with @Ronnie. Never heard of any such side effects of ribbon delete. The only issue I know of is when someone left the rubber seal behind (without the plastic ring) and it got sucked into the engine, not pretty.
But in any instance, if it runs fine now, I don't think you have anything to worry about. The singles like to overheat sometimes, it can happen due to obstruction or if even you run in circles/tight turns, such as when pulling a tube etc., and the engine momentarily starves of cooling water.

I was getting my 2016 ready for the lake and and started it up for less than 10 seconds after I installed the oem 192 transducer. the check engine light and alarm went on. I took it to Berts Mega Mall to read the code. They stated it was from a engine temp alarm when the boat had 0.1 hrs (likely when dealer or yamaha started it up for the first time). They also stated the Yamaha computer would never clear without YDS and could throw the check engine light at any time for an alarm that happened in the past.

So take to dealer, clear code with YDS and move on. (if it comes back then you may have a bigger issue)
