I bunch of things we saw and bought from yards sales being conducted during our bike ride around town this morning. Got a great deal, $150 for everything the tubes are new in package. The spa steps alone cost more than that new. My wife is looking forward to using the rotisserie

Also attached are a few pics from a place we picked up dinner from. This is still considered a nice neighbor hood. I like the way they secured their rocking chairs.

Took the kids to TopGolf yesterday. Weather was perfect.

My BIL inherited my FIL's boat, and the water damage over the past 5 years finally caught up with him. Some of it was from "fixes" my FIL attempted, but the majority of it was due to bad storage, and his "buddy" not caring about the boat where it was stored, and leaving it out to seemingly put the final nail in the coffin to force these repairs. I'm only offering advice, ideas and possible solutions, and helped design & build the rear bench seat in the last pic. Still have work to do on that, but that's likely all the hands-on stuff I'll be doing. Better planning could have resulted in a better bench design, as this supposedly needs to be done by sometime in early May, but that wasn't mine to control.

I volunteered to finish off the assembly of the bench seat so they could hotfoot it to their bowling league. After finishing up, I went over to visit, as I used to be on their team with them a number of years ago, and haven't seen some of the other folks in the league. The lanes have been updated since my last visit, but the people were just as I remembered them. I'd love to join back up, but nobody apparently has a bowling league with a reasonable length for a season that doesn't make it feel like a second job to me.

Wow, quite a project. Are these new plywood supports going to be sealed, Polyurethaned and epoxied, glassed into the hull? I hope they take the time to seal that plywood. Nice work, BTW.

Awesome! ?

Hope you have nice clear skies tomorrow.

Jim

Me too. Beautiful bluebird sky today, hope it lasts another 36 hours. A little bit of clouds in the forecast, optimistic.

Finally got the boat out of hibernation. Won’t get on the water for a couple months, but I’ll have plenty of time to get some things done.

Well, I can only report what I've been told, which is that "fiberglassing will be done" - to what, I'm not certain. I recommended after getting the initial fiberglass work done, to epoxy everything to help avoid the fiberglass damage and intrusion that caused all of this, and I THINK I was heard and will be listened to. I'm still not certain on the poly, as it sounds like he's covering everything in the Vevor version of SeaDek.

The interior of at least one of those compartments of the seat base I assembled will be fully lined with the Vevor EVA foam, as I talked him into turning that into an anchor locker of sorts to hold the Mantus I gave him, and I suggested 'glassing the seat base first to help with structure and rigidity, We'll see.

Boating with them has been interesting, as "didn't have enough room, so we didn't bring _______" was a common refrain. In removing much of the damage, compartments were opened up that were never before used for storage. The area under the bow seats, for instance, were never open, and I convinced him to devise hatches or lids to allow access, and gain some much needed space. His brother and I were able to convince him to remove the old livewell that caused all the damage in the rear, and repurpose it into useable storage, and this has been an exercise in problem solving to try to gain as much storage as possible since he's got a blank slate.

I'd love to say with confidence that all of those things you mentioned will be done, but I'm not certain. I help where I can, suggest when asked, and vent to others when frustrated after being ignored. As I've been told by a wise man, "All you can do is tell them". Yours are great points that I related to him today when he called, and I'm in agreement with you. I'll report back when this is done - good or bad.

Oh no you don’t!! It’s hard enough to get you on the water with all of YOUR projects without adding other peoples problems!!! :)

All kidding aside, what a project!! Was that the boat that your BIL brought to the Sandbar Bash last year?

I begged off the fiberglassing, as I'm not looking forward to my own stuff! The woodworking is/was self-serving as well, as I needed them to finish with my track saw so I can take it back to use it on a vac cabinet, but you're right, it was a time suck of this past weekend.

Yeah, that's the boat. As you saw, when he's "loaded down" with 5 people, there's not a lot of room, so this helps me as well, so that I don't have to carry some of his stuff.

Ring of fire - ✅

Unfortunately heavy clouds so we only had about 30 seconds of viewing time

It’s pretty normal until that last 1% then it just goes dark

Did that same repair a couple years ago on the fuel tank hatch. It was a big job.
I used marine ply on mine for that and it turned out well! But the next day was my first stroke day. So I remember it well. Hopefully not a repeat!

Used a multitool with a flat wood blade to clean this thing up. Original appeared to be 3/8. I found a 4x8 sheet of hdpe by the trim department and it's 1/2" so hope it won't be too thick. Going to clean the surfaces on both sides quick with orbital, cut some 1/2" ply strips i have laying around, clamp together and test fit stuff. Doesn't matter if it sits lower in locker but needs to sit flush with deck, so that's my concern. Idhate to have it all together with epoxy and then be too thick to be even.
