Interesting that this topic surfaced again....I was thinking earlier this week "I wonder how long this CPAP machine lasts?" I have an airsense 10. Been working fine, but I was thinking....8 hours a day every day.....anyone have one that stopped working? After how long?
I kept my old ResMed 9, after I purchase a new DreamStation Go. After the first night of use, the ResMed gave me a message. "Motor life exceeded, please contact service provide" Even with the message the machine still worked. I looked at the usage hours and it was 22,000 hours!

I used the water tank for the first couple of years, then stopped, as it was too much of a hassle for me. Don't know if this extends the motor life or not?

My understanding is that the filters need to be replaced weekly. Perhaps more often if humidity is used?

I have also read on line that adding the filter adds resistence (makes sense) and some patients have had to increase the pressure of their machines to compensate.

Jim
True on all accounts. Check with y'alls CPAP docs for this

They can last a long time honestly. But since insurance will replace every 5 years, we go ahead and do so

You don't necessary need a script from a sleep doc, just a script. I haven't seen a sleep doc, since I had my sleep study done 12 years ago. The only reason I see to go back would be to get new machine setting levels and I have switched to an auto machine anyway as this gives me a better night sleep. I asked my family doc to write my new script so that I could order my new machine. He/she will need to put a pressure range on the script so that the supplier can adjust the machine prior to shipping. If you need to, its easy to find a video of youtube to adjust the settings.

Jim
Jim my family doc punted it... he said that insurance would not cover it.

However, for a one-off / used maybe I should do another run at him. I know the settings for my current machine... maybe I will reach out to my DME supplier too.

Thanks
Mark

@mark_m
I got my refurb from Hart Medical Supply. I actually paid $429 last month (with hose.) Looks like the price went up slightly...shocker!
Yes, I needed to upload a script/prescription. Your doctor will have it on file and should have no problem giving you a copy. Make sure it has your airflow "numbers" on it and that it has the current date on it. That's all Hart was worried about seeing.
That being said, the owners manuals are available online and you can easily customize the setting on your own. I attached it anyway...shows you how to access the "Clinical Menu" on page 14.

@Julian , my Doc has told me that CPAP's should be replaced every 4-5 years. That's the common time frame for insurance coverage.

I have been snoring heavy for all my life. Finally went this year to sleep doctor, they put me on the CPAP in June. I hated wearing it at first. Now I sleep 6-7 or so hours a night and get the best nights sleep that I have ever had. I look forward now to putting it on and going to sleep. I have the ResMed AirSense10

Been almost exactly 4 years for me and I haven't missed a night! Best move I ever made.

Inspire looks like an implant. Not crazy about any kind of implant.
BTW... I pay a small co-pay every couple of months for supplies. They come automatically. Works out good.
I asked my MD about inspire, there are a lot of videos you tube about it. It’s an implant that goes under the skin on your chest. It’s controlled via wireless remote. The battery in the implant is expected to last 10 years before needing to be replaced. My MD couldn’t answer any of the “what if the remote breaks, get lost, etc” questions. No big deal if the remote fails while the implant is off but what about if it’s on? I lost interest once my MD told me my healthcare plan doesn’t cover it, so if I want it I would have to come out of pocket $30k to $35k.

I wasn't real sure how it was going to work out with insurance, but I pay $34 per month to DME Source which is the Medical Equipment Supplier as a copay. With that It pays off my portion of the machine and I get new masks, hose and filters every 60 days auto shipped. If I want to try a different mask they send it to me as a switch and it is no cost. I just need to go see the Sleep Specialist Doctor, 1 per year. Seemed like a good deal. Also After 12 months I own the Machine outright and my payments will reduce and only be paid once a quarter. At year 3 I automatically get a new Machine and the monthly payments start again for a year.

Cheapest thing I have done with Medical as long as I can remember.

Hey Julian, since you started this, how about a detailed update lol?

Are you sleeping better? Is your energy level during the day better?

Any other positive or negative effects? Thx

I've been using my cpap machine every night and have been scoring 100 on their app pretty much every night (if not 100, no less than 95). I don't snore anymore, and I feel well rested. One major positive is that I use the humidifier all the time and my sinuses are no longer dry and stuffy all the time!!!

Philips is finally remediating the recalled CPAP and auto CPAP machines from two years ago!

These machines were recalled in June 2021. I got an e-mail last week that they are now offering replacement machines or up to $500 (depending on the age of the machine). Personally, I’m taking the $500, as I will never buy another Philips machine after this debacle. I will say that two years in, I am still very happy with the Breas Z2 Auto that I bought to replace my Philips Dreamstation Go.
