I wanted to share the following information with 212X owners, and it may also be helpful for owners of other models with towers. Unfortunately for me, we have to lower and raise the tower on our 2012 212X fairly often (there is a low bridge over a channel that we have to navigate in order to reach some of the better beaches in our area). I have been paranoid about the likelihood that we will eventually drop one of the pins in the water – and I did not want to pay Yamaha’s ridiculous prices for spares.

The following information pertains to 2012 and newer 212X models only – these are a ½”-13 thread with a 2” grip length for all pins. For 2014 Yamaha added a spring washer at all tower to pin interfaces (12 total) to reduce how much the pins loosen over time.

NOTE:
Pre-2012 models use a 3/8”-16 thread and may have different grip lengths. Low cost replacement pins are readily available from J.W. Winco but I cannot confirm grip lengths – a little research will get you to the right part numbers.

The official Yamaha Sports Plaza boat parts site:
http://www.yamahasportsplaza.com/oemparts/c/yamaha_sport_boat/parts

The parts and prices for a 2012 – 2014 212X are as follows:
Screw (pin) F2J-U724D-00-00 2” grip length, 5 lobe (solid) knob $43.41 each
Knob (nut) F2D-U724D-20-00 5 lobe (solid) knob $35.57 each

Of course I ordered my spares from J.W. Winco: http://www.jwwinco.com/
Screw (pin) 8T2ABB ½-13 X 2 EN5337.2-74 2” grip length, 5 lobe (hollow) knob $5.88 each
Knob (nut) 8TABBM/E ½-13 EN5337.2-74 5 lobe (hollow) knob TYPE E (brass insert) $6.08 each

Note that I could not find a solid knob in the thread size and grip length, so I bought hollow knobs that have maybe a ½” larger diameter than the factory parts. The knobs appear to be very sturdy, I do not anticipate any problems.

Thanks for Sharing! I raise and lower mine to get it into my garage all the time so eventually I will need to purchase some new ones. For now mine are holding up well.

This is great, thank you so much! I have a 2014 AR192 and just lost my knob this afternoon after passing the bridge!!
Just order a new one 5337.2-2.48-1/2X13-E from JW Winco for $16 ($5 for the part, $10 shipping, $1 in tax). If this works then that'll make me much less worried every time I have to lower the tower!

Note: I had to select a 2.48" diameter knob, as I couldn't find the 2.74" you mentioned. Shouldn't be a problem.
