Still Can Not Go Over 22 MPH!

I know he did not like Chatlee, but he was also talking about a place in Wilmington that checked out his boat. There is only 1 place here that sells Yamaha Jet Boats now. I on the other hand have a complete opposite experience with Chatlee. That's where I got my boat and had a few things addressed by them after delivery. They were nothing but awesome to deal with. As to the dealerships. Yeah there is Chatlee in Sanford, Performance East in Goldboro. And I'm looking at the Yamaha site dealer locator, Wilmington Powersports is now listed as well. I don't have any experience with them personally, other than seeing their way overpriced boats and things boaters I know around here told me.
Ahhhhhh, got it. Did not know there was one down in Wilmington. However, buying a boat in Wilmington is like buying a car up here. Too many people will pay stupid prices cause it's full of rich people with no sense.

what? never seen that before. So you are saying he was banned? or is that when you were banned for some reason?
I think he’s sharing his own experience, not the OP’s. Not sure other forum members know when others are in a time out.

Jim

The OP was not banned. You can tell if others are on a "time out" here by looking next to their "about" info. There is a "warnings" category, if applicable. At least I can see it. Just an example.

Didn’t know about that…thankfully my rap sheet is clean…

Update to the slow boat issue. We finally took it to Wilmington PowerSports since about a year ago they started selling Yamaha Jet Boats. When we first bought our AR195 they were only selling Yamaha JetSkis and told me they would not work on Jetboats, I wasn’t crazy about taking it there, but there are no other options for us.
They are telling us it’s the super clutch and the the estimate is way too much for us to even think about fixing it. They gave us an estimate of almost 10K! And that was just an estimate because they could not give a full estimate until they got the boat taken apart to see if there was anything else that was broken. So the way we look at that is, here let me give you a blank check and you fill it in! No thanks! I told them I’d pay the diagnostic fee, $232.00 and I’d come pick it up. I knew the minute they broke into the boat, we would be committed to have it fixed.
We have been enjoying the boat going out almost every weekend since we purchased it and to give that up, we are not willing to do that. We’ve decided to continue to enjoy the boat as long as it runs.
On a closing note. I would not recommend WPS, a lot of red flags in this estimate. 1st I had called Partzilla for a price on a new SC and it was 4,800.00, WPS told me it was 6500.00. When I asked them why almost 2k more than Partzilla, they told me it must be an aftermarket part, not a Yamaha part. I called Partzilla and they were offended by this because they sell huge volume to many dealers all over and they assured me that part was not after market. The estimate was 2,200.00 to take the boat apart, another 2,200.00 to put it back together, add in the 6500.00, but like I said they could not confirm that price until they got into the repair!

We will continue to enjoy the boat, our routine is get up early before anyone goes out, cruise in Wake mode for a few miles, take in the salt air, drink our coffee and tea, anchor at our favorite spot. Watch birds, sleep, eat, look at more birds, nap, eat. Crank her up, take her to 22 mph for a few miles, come back in. For us that’s a good day.

If it gets worst we go slower, we will keep using the boat until it won’t run, then we decide if we want to sell the boat or look at other option to try and have it fixed.

Reached out to my other mechanic guy in Southport and he has not returned my call. I would trust him to do the work. He is a very honest person.

Thanks everyone for the responses. Happy Holidays and hope to see you out there on the water!

@DonJohnsMusic dude you are extremely frustrating. We told you how to check the clutch in 5 minutes your self. My wife could figure that out. You wasted time and effort and money ignoring that. It happens, doubt anything else is wrong with the boat.

Anyways like I said the clutches go bad, I paid about $1200 for a jet ski repair shop to fix mine. I doubt you will take my advice but I’d be happy to give you $15,000 cash to take the boat off your hands.

ok Adrian, YOU went to a JET SKI REPAIR SHOP????? So he was one of the non scum of the earth jet ski people LOL sorry I just could not pass that up ..

You don’t need a new super charger you just need the sprague clutch. The prices you were give were for whole new super charger assembly. A good shop will know that all that is needed is this clutch.

Here’s the part, its what? $645 bucks.

Here’s a vid of how it is done.. I’d say a good mechanic could do this job in 8 hours or less while the engine is in the boat. This guy is doing it in his garage and with the engine out of his ski, if he wasn’t trying to video it and explain everything he is doing I’d say he‘d be done in less than two hours start to finish.

I share @adrianp89 frustration, we want you to get it fixed and running correctly.

Here’s an analogy for you that may make you understand how we feel about it.

You are a professional musician. If you had an instrument that was out of tune would you continue to make music with that instrument? Of course you wouldn’t, you would figure out what was wrong with it and fix it so it could be tuned properly and then played. By using your boat at 5500 rpm, to us its like you using an instrument that is out of tune and sounds like finger nails on a chalk board. Its a simple repair to make the boat “play“ properly. And its not going to cost eleventy five million dollars to get it done. I’m guessing it will be like $2000 or less all inclusive. And while you are at it install one of those pop off valves to keep it from happening again.

Get your fun instrument tuned up properly and go use it.

Tow it to me, i will take care of it for a hell of a lot less. PM me if interested

This is a no brainer decision,
continue to use the boat at max 22mph or have it fixed and go 45mph,

I'd make that drive everyday to have neutron work on my boat, i wouldn't care if it was 4 hours

He is no more than 2 hours from me

As a fyi for the group… it took me a bit to find it, but I found the clutch in the parts fische listed in the crank shaft and piston page. I looked up a 2022 195 FSH sport, but the parts should be the same across the ski’s and the boats that ise the SVHO motor, as you can see Yamaha does not call it a clutch, and its really a sprague clutch. From the vid I linked above, if you have an older unit, I have no idea of the model year cut off, you will need to buy the idler wheel and the clutch. While the vid did not mention it, I would think the SC shaft drive gear would have to be changed as well. RIVA racing probably has all of that stuff…in the linked thread on page two I think it is, there is a link to a parts page but it just takes you to parts page without the part number. When I talked with the Bismarck store Dan told me they had never sold any of these…

Alright boys and girls,

I just got off the phone with my dealer in Bismarck ND, I asked them how many hours of labor it would be to change out a bad SC clutch, flat rate is 4 hours per engine, at their shop rate of $159 which is on the low end of the spectrum that would be $636 in labor. The clutch / gear drive is $634, so that comes to $1270 before taxes and shop chemicals. With 7% sales tax and $30 in shop chemicals that comes to $1391 which screams to be $1400, per engine.

If it was me I’d be adding one of those pop off valves so that didn’t happen again.

While all your input is great, unfortunately the OP doesn't seem to want or need help from any of us. But your info is still great for someone searching for a similar problem. Someone that actually wants help here

Not sure which model year but Yamaha upgraded the clutch gear assy, its beefier so once repaired it should last longer

Its not really a clutch, its a one way roller sprag. Very similar to whats in automatic transmissions. So its no wonder when you launch a jetski and it comes out of the water and freewheels then it re engages why they get destroyed. Hence why a blow off valve is a good idea.
Put one on my FZS when it was new.
These sprags dont like extreme heat and the cage part of it takes a beating so if it gets beat up it gets loose and why it fails and freewheels both ways

I did the additional footwork for that very reason Neut, to kinda close the loop so future searches will have a solution.
