Transducer not reading at speed

I am VERY confident it will dramatically improve results over the original location. Fingers still crossed; but I think you will be pleased. Be sure to seal up those old holes. I plugged my original transducer holes with two part marine epoxy putty and sanded smooth...or at least silicone them full. The remaining stick of putty I now have is great to have on board in the tragic event I ever spring a leak somewhere. It sets fast and cures under water.

I just took it out... The water was super choppy, so I only got up to about 20mph, but it read accurately the whole time. I am confident that this mounting point will give me accurate measurements at full throttle.

Glad you got it working well! Glad I didn't have them put mine back there when I originally mounted mine (I put mine in the spot where the speedo pickup is, and moved the speedo back to the position where you originally put yours-except on the other side). Both work well.

Good deal @PaulyB , glad you got it moved. @Julian , the speedo has the mast that sticks down deep enough to get in contact with the water, and it isn't as critical to disturbed water, although accuracy is certainly less if it isn't in undisturbed water. These dang transducers however, can't have any air or turbulence under them, and must remain in clean water at all times. That is tricky off the back of a boat anyway as the hull has displaced the water it is riding in, so mounting depth is critical. Too deep, and the transducer itself will disturb the water. That is why most mounting instructions say to mount the bottom of the transducer 1/4" below the extended flat plane of the hull in undisturbed water. The 240's all have a ride plate in the jet pump recess, that the 230's did not have. That eliminated mounting a transom mount style for me where I knew it was protected and clean water, so that is why I went with the thru hull expense on top of the included transom mount. BTW, I have a new, unused Garmin transom mount transducer if anyone is interested in one. I think you will find that you have good results from that location @PaulyB , the only issues guys seem to report mounted there is hitting it when beached or swimming, and in reverse, sometimes the jet thrust can disturb the water and lose signal...but that can happen in transition from forward to reverse thrust when turning at times with any of them. Let us know how it works at speed!
