Video how to add a 2nd bilge pump to a Yamaha 242X

I made this video while installing a 2nd bilge pump to my 242X. Hope this helps someone:

Hi I have the 2018 AR240 so I think our models are similar enough. I appreciate your video. Couple questions. Did you drill a hole from the engine compartment into the rear bilge area for the hose to pass through? Not sure what the best way is to drill back there. Also I noticed you installed a separate switch on the panel - looks nice. Did you consider bridging the electrical lines from the primary bilge pump. Just wondering if I can control it all with just one switch. Appreciate any advice.

I added a second one to my 242 and you don’t have to drill a hole to the rear bilge area but you will have to drill a hole for the discharge port. Also, I have mine on an automated switch so it automatically comes on when it’s needed. I never did add an “active” switch.

Thx. I think I’ll tie my manual switch to the existing switch and then run the automatic switch wire directly to the battery.

Did you end up installing the manual it in parallel with the main bilge pump as you described? I would think this would cycle both pumps on every couple of minutes?

No it didn’t work out. I think you’re right it would cycle both of them, but more importantly I was getting a red light on the panel indicating an electrical fault. I didn’t want to take any chances so I added the second pump with its own master switch and a built-in float switch. This allows me to isolate both pumps and the master switch allows me to completely keep turn it off should it be stuck on or something. (I’ve seen floats get stuck in the on position).

I like the video and all but, I mounted a 2nd pump In our old '18 242x. I put it low as could be in the stern almost to the drain plug. I found the the center engine compartment where the OEM pump is the best location. The one in the rear didn't even get water unless there was almost 4" of water in the engine compartment. Even than I had to stand on the back to get it to auto on. With no one in the boat and the 2nd pump in (on) it did start at about 3"

I guess it could be installed right next to the OEM pump. Seems like there’s plenty of space.
