@jcyamaharider

I was reading through all of the threads that I coud find on the wake wedge and I noticed that in one of threads you said that you could make a one piece wedge to accommodate both regular and goofy footed surfers. What would this require? Would I need two hardware mounting kits be able to switch the wedge from port to starboard side? We are surfing rope less right now with just factory ballast but are looking to clean up the wave. We will also be adding some extra ballast for next season.

Don't own one but i believe its the same hardware but flipped around. If you wanna switch back and forth i believe you would want to buy a couple extra pieces of hardware so the other side is set up and ready. I could be wrong as i don't actually own.

That is what I was thinking. Just trying to confirm this with @jcyamaharider. Also curious if anyone here has had a one piece wedge made.

If you don't mind what kind of surf board are you using to go rope less?

You would need an extra ladder bracket and you couldn't use the fold down flap to reboard the boat using the ladder if you bought the one piece. Lead time is extended because I would have to order the material and get it machined. The change over time from port to starboard is still around 30-40 minutes.

So are you saying a "one piece" still requires a change from right to left side and all you are doing is sacrificing the ability to use ladder?

Most users go this route if they plan to use the automation system.

How fast are you going in this video? The wave looks clean just short with a long pocket because of the boat speed. We run 10.7 when we surf. More speed will lengthen your pocket but you will loose wave height, reverse that for opposite effect. Added ballast in different positions to also do that same thing. More ballast to the rear of the boat will give you a taller wave with less pocket length, more nose weight will give pocket length. You just have to find the perfect combo of speed and ballast placement.

In that video we were at 12.5 mph. We have dialed it down to 10.5 since then. We will definitely be adding ballast next season. If I do decide to order 2 wedges is there a discount?

Question. We have a '15 242 LS. Does one need to add ballast in order to surf ropeless if you have a Wake Wedge? Thank you for your replies.

Lots of factors here: how much you weigh, size/type of board, number of people in boat (aka "friend ballast"), your skill level. But in general, you'd need to be light and on a bigger board to surf with zero ballast....or pretty good at surfing.

Yes, short answer.

You will need to use at least 2,000 lbs of ballast (actual weight, not nominal bags' capacity) and list the boat for any adult to go ropeless. Wake wedge just shapes the wave and keeps the white wash down. I think @jcyamaharider uses some 3,500+ lbs of ballast for a nice wave.

Well I am looking at what I planned to do with my factory ballast which was add vents to both tanks and install a selector valve so I could fill one side or the other... problem is, I do not think that on my 212X that its would add enough list without additional tanks so it got me to thinking, on Wakemakers, they have this new trim tab surf system where you ballast your boat evenly then it helps to create your standard or goofy wake. I am not worried about switching sides at this time mid surf, in fact I have a looooooong way to go before I can even attempt that maneuver but I am wondering about buying a set of large tabs and modifying them to haver the channel that the WM system does. I am also thinking that it can be done much cheaper than their system (almost 4k) with a little machining and welding to the tabs to create the flow nozzle and also if it could be done in such a way that it could still be used as a trim tab for normal use as well as surf and clean up the wake some like the wake wedge but with the water flow? Just spit balling here, need to muster funds to attempt it etc. and I figure worst case I wipe out a set of the planes and just buy a new set. Thoughts?

@jcyamaharider We have been looking at surf shapers, and have both goofy and regular footed people on the boat on almost all the trips we take. I was looking at the design you have, and wondering if you wanted to run the wake wedge on both sides at the same time, could you cut the hinged piece in half and fit both of the wedges at the same time. It also sounds like you have a one piece option. Is there any pics of the one piece option, and can you just talk about my idea for shortening the hinged piece and if you think it would work?

Here is a picture of what I was thinking. If you were to chop off the part where the red boxes are then would they both close together and you could run them at the same time? Thank you!
