What age to start tubing?

At what age would you/did you start putting your kiddos in a tube and towing them around?

I wish I had the videos of me as a kid asleep in a tube behind the boat. I was little Barely out of my "floaties"

I wish I could have started mine earlier but I didn't have a boat. My son is 14 and he is going straight for the tubing big leagues this summer!

4 & 5, but we take it slow for them... until they start screaming faster!

When we got our boat our boy was already 9, but my buddy has a small 5 y/o boy ( I believe he's five, maybe younger) and he tubes. I have him get on our biggest tube (with his dad). Both have a PFD on and we go slow(ish).

However for my 9 year old... he isn't happy until he's thrown off the dang thing!!

Are we talking alone, or with an adult?

Thanks for all of your answers and stories. This gives me an idea of when I can try getting my little guy on the tube.
I know you started this thread last year @Murf'n'surf. Just wondering if the little guys has been out on the tube yet? If so, how did it go?

Not yet. He is comfortable in water but I'm afraid he isn't brave enough for a tube yet.

Took the neighbors kid out today for her first time.....I think she is 30 something:winkingthumbsup"

@Zarrella - I'll be at Shell Island near Panama City Beach in a few weeks. Why don't you bring her down to the beach!!

My neighborhood kids don't look like that...

That's probably a real good thing come to think about it...

My son was 3 but that is how old he was when we got the boat. Been on it maybe 5 times, fell off once, and I was afraid he would not want to try it this year but he did and we just go straight but a decent speed. I'll take my daughter next year, she turns 2 in March.

My boys were 3...however, it was on a very quiet part of the river and speed was watched closely...but, it doesn't take long for the confidence to build and the spread increase

I think in our case it is going to be never. Last summer, my wife got so mad at people crossing closely in front of us with tubes when we were skiing or wakeboarding that she decided she wanted as little to do with tubes as possible. She gave ours away. We will be grandparents in a couple of years. I imagine when our grandchild is around 3, we will start them off on a ski-trainer or one of those multi-sport boards.

The question should be how old do you have to be to stop tubing. I've found it hurts more and more the older I get!!

Actually my son started at the age of 2 but you didn't include that in your poll.
