As most of us have a long weekend away from work and will be enjoying some cold beverages on our boats, I ask that all take the time to appreciate why. Regardless of gripes about politics or taxes we are very fortunate to own boats and even more fortunate in our freedoms and way of life. These freedoms and way of life do not come cheap. They come at the cost of many brave men and women paying for it with their lives. These brave men and women not only paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom but also in conflicts to liberate others from oppression. We should enjoy these freedoms and way of life in their honor on Memorial Day while appreciating why we have them.

At 3pm on Memorial Day please stop whatever your are doing, shut off engines, turn off radios, put down beverages, stop walking down the street, pause conversation, or so forth and observe one minute of silence. If someone should ask what you are doing please kindly let them know as some are just not aware that 3pm is the National Moment of Remembrance that Congress established to observe a minute of silence for our fallen heroes on Memorial Day. The National Moment of Remembrance was established as a poll revealed only 28% of Americans knew the true meaning of Memorial Day and children knew it as the day the pool opens. Please make it a tradition to never forget our fallen heroes on Memorial Day.

For those reading this that pledge allegiance to flags other than the stars and stripes of the USA I imagine you can at least appreciate what Memorial Day represents for the United States and this quote….

“A nation that does not honor it’s heroes, will not long endure" - Abraham Lincoln

Hope everyone has a fun and safe Memorial Day.

Well stated my friend

Very well said.....I didn't know about the 3pm minute of silence....thanks for posting!

Thanks for posting. Just told the family about the 3 pm minute of silence.

I totally agree and liked your post. But have a dumb question I guess. If I'm in Central time is that 2 PM for me? Or is it 3 PM for each time zone?

Time zone dependent I'm sure.

I will be running the fireworks store until 4 :( so no boating or celebrating or remembering for me. Perhaps I could think of something to do at night...

I do believe it is 3pm local time.

Thanks for the heads up @Mainah. I'm gonna tell my wife she has to observe 3pm in each time zone.

Didn't know, now I do. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for passing along. So important to remember those who have fallen for us.

My uncle paid the ultimate price in Vietnam. KIA due to mortar/artillery fire. I was not fortunate to ever meet him but I still see the pain in my fathers eyes whenever we observe a military holiday.

Thanks for the post informing everyone about the moment of silence/remembrance. You can bet everyone near me will know when 3pm hits.

On the way to marina I asked my girls if they knew what Memorial Day represented. Oldest said it was for veterans (close but wrong), middle one nailed it and said for the ones who died. Little one just said I don't know but at least she appears to be saluting in the pic. image.jpeg

A local news station broadcasted that everyone should observe a momment of silence at 12:01 pm tomorrow. As much as I wanted to flame them publicly on facebook instead I sent a message to the news desk asking for a correction and included the wiki links for Memorial Day and The National Moment of Remembrance. Noon is the time we should raise the flag back to full mast by the way.

Both the government and the media need to do a better job as there are those who have knelt in front of battle crosses who are not even aware.

Lets keep spreading the word because it is the right thing to do.

Callsigns/names of a few of the brave warriors I proudly served beside that have sacrificed all of their Memorial Days for all of our future Memorial Days...

A nickel on the grass for you my friends, this world is a lesser place without each of you in it!

“At the grave of a hero we end, not with sorrow at the inevitable loss, but with the contagion of his courage; and with a kind of desperate joy we go back to the fight.”

Sure. As far as I am concerned anything I post here outside of a PM is public domain. This in particular is something that I hope gets shared far and wide. Thanks in adavance for sharing with others.

IMG_2219.JPG I'm in Boston for the weekend and visited the Boston Commons and they have a great display to honor the states fallen heroes one flag for each. I think the number was 39,000 plus. Gives you goose bumps.

Gives me goose bumps just seeing the picture.
