I know there are probably a dozen posts out there and I've read some, but I just want some more clarification.

This will be my first winter with my 2004 SR230. From what I'm reading so far the winterization process if pretty straight forward.

- Add fuel treatment/stabilizer to fuel and run the boat to mix it up
- Top off fuel tank to prevent condensation
- Flush out any remaining water from each engine by blowing it out with a few revs
- Add fogging oil

From what I'm reading, flushing anti-freeze is not necessary or recommended by Yamaha.

I guess my biggest questions is, where exactly do I spray the fogging oil and for how long? Do I spray them in each spark arrestor? Remove plugs and in each cylinder?

How beneficial is it to shrink wrap boats? I have two covers for mine that I could double.

Thanks for the tips!

When u get to that thread say... I haven't read all the way through but should I fog or not? Lol. It will get it up and running again!

I think you have a pretty good list there!

My 2 cents for you:

  • You fog by spraying into the intakes...I use two cans at once and still can't kill the engines....so have someone ready to just turn them off
  • Shrink wrap....good idea if you are storing outside....snow slides off. Otherwise you risk too much snow weight on your cover(s) and they will stretch and/or rip. (although you don't have your location in your profile...but I'm assuming you are up north as you are winterizing already?)

The yamaha is probably the only boat in the world that you could put away for the winter, without doing ANYTHING, and have it survive nicely. A little bit or winterization goes a long way. I live in cold snow country. I fog mine the yamaha way (I think) by peeling back the rubber boots off the intakes and spraying inside. I do this with the engine stopped and the turn over the engines a bunch to work it inside. A slippy tarp helps the snow slide off but I still use a long brush and only let 4" or so accumulate before I clean it off. Boat has survived 6 winters so far. Cam.
