Con’t from the Oklahoma trip 2024 thread

Next day was a down day and getting ready for the next leg of my trip up to Fremont WI. The day after that I was up early and drove over to Keystone lake and loaded up my boat and was off to Fremont WI, another two day drive. I stopped that night in a town called Indianola Iowa for the night, severe thunder storms were in the forecast for that night, and as usual I covered my boat for the overnight stay. I was awakened around 0200 by a roar, I wasn’t sure what it was at first then realized it was rain, heavy rain, and lots of wind and hail. Looked out the window and the truck and trailer were secure although being battered by rain, wind and hail.

As I headed out to get breakfast in the lobby and found that the lone elevator was now out of order, awesome. I checked with the hotel staff and they were not prepared for this and had no idea when the elevator repairman would arrive, that meant I had to carry all of my stuff down four flights of stairs by hand. As a fyi at this point, I take everything off of my boat and put it in my hotel room at night, even the empty ice chest because tweakers being what they are everywhere will steal anything. It took 15 trips down the four flights of stairs to get everything back on the boat, by this time I was completely soaked in sweat and had to take another shower and put on dry clothes, then I was off to Fremont.

Beautiful drive through the country side in WI to get to the lake house I had rented on the shore of Lake Poygan.

I unloaded my stuff and headed down to The Bridge Bar and Restaurant for dinner

On Friday my host @drewkaree came by and we chatted for a bit then we headed out to dinner. At this point I want to say all the food I had in WI was excellent!

Awesome tavern where we had fish and chips… I put an old fashioned on the edge of the table as bait, but no Wisconsin Honies were biting that night..

I thought I had take pictures of the Bus Stop bar but apparently not, its across the street from the Hotel Fremont, what a cool little bar!

Saturday was the big Sand Bar Bash.. I’d never hung out at a sand bar let alone gone to a party at one, and what a party it was! This bash took the profits and made trips possible for veterans.

Here we can see the Mayor of Sandbarville showing the finer details of home made sand spikes to @WiskyDan

I had heard the estimate of how many boats in attendance was 650 or more. The band was great that was playing on the barge. I only saw three people that had too much to drink and saw no altercations between people. I suppose one of the unexpected things was a very large pontoon boat with a stripper pole and some incredible talent working that pole, of mention was the dark haired girl in the black bikini…sadly I left my phone on my boat…

During the week when my hosts were not there I had intended to explore all three lakes at my doorstep, Poygan, Butte des Morts and Winnebago. I had breakfast most days at the Hotel Fremont.

I ended up having have a couple of down days due to fixing a leaking grease seal on my trailer. The main reason there was that the wear sleeve I had replaced some time ago was not installed properly I didn’t know that it required red Loctite to hold it in place and seal it.
I had inadvertently left my extra wear sleeves at home so I got a couple sent to me from Hannah RV. So once I got that fixed I was back in action.

Something I had to get used to was how shallow these lakes are there.

While there were plenty of outboard, I/O and stern drive boats there, some of which were huge for such a lake, this was definitely jet boat territory. Yeah there was some grass to deal with but that was minor.

Oh yeah, 87 Non ethanol fuel was readily available for a good price!

One of the treats one gets while having dinner outside at the Hotel Fremont is watching the Webfooters practicing their routines.. how do they get that many skiers up behind one boat?!!!!

I also made it out to Lake Michigan to Salmon fish. I put in at Algoma, what a beautiful marina, the docks and the ramp looked brand new. I didn’t know much before setting out other than some general guidance from Hooked Up fishing tackle, I did manage to catch one salmon on my outing before I had to head in due to worsening conditions. I did get pretty damn sea sick on this outing, thank goodness I took meclazine the night before so I didn’t paint the deck.

Insert pics and vids of Lake Michigan here.

A small salmon, but a legal fish on the boat non the less! I don’t know how things would have went if I would have hooked into a big one later in the day when it had gotten rough.

On the second weekend @drewkaree and @WiskyDan were around again and we did a little bar hopping to see bands and have something to eat. It is so cool to be able to boat up to an establishment and have a great meal, I don’t have anything like that here where I boat at. So very cool to see all these folks together having a great time!

Overall the trip was 3600 miles and I averaged 13.1 mpg. I’ll be heading back over to WI next year to finish exploring the area and hang out with @drewkaree and @WiskyDan

Great trip! Surprised the Webfooters practice so close to the docks, unless boats are not allowed to dock there. If so they would be bouncing around quite a bit

They're granted access and allowed to set that section of the river to slow / no wake, for practices and shows. Generally, the area is pretty local, so folks know not to park parallel to the shoreline, or they find out REALLY quick 🤣

Perpendicular to shore, as long as you've got decent fenders, it's fine, as they have to let the water settle between runs as well, otherwise they have trouble themselves with staying upright.

They SHOULD be further from shore, but lifts and whips are predominant along the river, so they don't take a beating too badly.

The place @FSH 210 Sport stayed at was the rental of our friends that they were finally able to buy, and he was their first guest. The area is pretty well insulated from the outside world, and the traffic is 99% locals, but it had to be a relief to not have to climb 4 flights of stairs to unload, for peace of mind. I think we hit upon some locking solution for his boat during his visit, for future trips, and with the neighborhood of amateur MacGyver's, there was no shortage of tools for his repairs, but I felt bad that he burned the time up working on the trailer.

Maybe next time, it'll be a trip via the water to the EAA, or I've heard plans for Door County and the Sturgeon Bay area.

Great to see more pics of the Oklahoma trip, but I really think @FSH 210 Sport dropped the ball with the stripper pole boat. We had to go inspect it, to make sure all the hardware was securely mounted and the danger was mitigated with such endeavors, and I think some gentlemen were taking up a collection to get those poor ladies some clothes, as they seemed to be missing much of their gear!

I have been "volunteered" several times since then to volunteer with the Sandbar Bash, but unfortunately I have responsibilities as Julie the Cruise Director, and the guests we bring, but I'm glad @FSH 210 Sport lost his Sandbar cherry with @WiskyDan and I.

Great visit, I only wish he lived closer!
