I used a Magic Eraser today for the first time and am REALLY impressed. So impressed I wondered if it will damage anything on the boat. Anyone have any issues using a magic eraser? I used it to clean the floor, the seats, the underside of the seats, and all the hard plastic bits of the boat. I can't recommend trying this enough!

You think magic erasers work well, just try the magic eraser mop! It makes quick work of the boat floor.

For the gel coat try a clay bar. Run your fingertips over a clayed area then a non clayed area........smooth as a baby's bottom.

I may have to try that this year. I did my truck last spring and it took the wax so much better. I'm ready to start the waxing\detail process on the boat this weekend.

From everything I can find, magic eraser is just melamine foam. So in theory, it will scratch or abrade anything softer than melamine. What that means in practical terms is a separate question.

Kevin, I truly have missed your thought process! Now if you could just lay the UBB theory to rest!

I've thought about the UBB quite a bit. It would be a lot simpler question if we didn't have lake water bringing in sediment, and evaporating leaving dissolved minerals behind. Then add in unequal starting conditions of the boat, and I think the answers may be a little bit different for everyone. The only thing I can say for sure, is I can't see any likely scenario where they aren't better than carpet.

Which is why I only use them on floors, seats and the undersides of seats....

Now the UBB discussion....perhaps that should be another thread! But put one hard surface against another hard surface and sand in between and only one thing is going to happen....

...and that one thing is to spur never ending debate about chalking and UBBs vs carpet threads!

I am a magic eraser fan for cleaning the floors or plastic/fiberglass items on the boat that get scuffed. I have also used them GENTLY to remove some dock rash, but I know others have advised not to. I always keep a couple on the boat.

I'll try the magic erasers in a couple weeks. We left the boat out one night last year (late summer / early fall) because we were going back out the next morning. There was no inclement weather forecasted (or so I thought), woke up the next morning to a soaked boat full of wet leaves. When removing the leaves and drying things out I noticed that the leaves had stained the seat cushions. I have tried nearly everything to remove the stains, they are only faint now but still slightly visible. Hoping the magic erasers do the trick..

Magic Erasers are awesome! I tried it last year for the first time on my boat seats. I went a little OCD after I realized how great it worked, I couldn't stop from cleaning everything!

I just cleaned my boat yesterday with Magic Eraser. That stuff is awesome! And like Volffas said, once I started using it and saw how great they worked, I couldn't stop myself from using on the seats and interior.

Ok, I have to chime in. Was just talking to @maboat about this today.

I've been using the Magic Eraser probably 2, maybe 3 years now....

I used to just clean my seats with good ole soap and water, and then apply a uv protectant 'conditioner' or whatever... Then I got this one stubborn stain on there and it came off almost instantly with the Magic Eraser. So well in fact that I noticed it was just a tad whiter where I had scrubbed with the Magic Eraser. So I proceeded to clean anything and everything in site with the things. Took off stubborn black marks on the gel coat, seats were pearly white, seemed too good to be true.

Then a couple months go by, and I start to notice the threads on my seat were separating a bit.... Then I started to notice more and more stains every week, and they were getting harder and harder to get out, even with the Magic eraser. After the first off-season when I pulled the cover off of my boat, there was a lot of yellowing spots all over the place. The best the magic eraser could do was to dull them....

So here I am now about to replace the entire upholstery in my boat! I'm not saying it was the Magic Eraser.... All I'm saying is that my interior looked pretty damn good BEFORE I started using it. And after just looking at @maboat 's interior, his looks GREAT! Says he's never used anything boat soap and water and some elbow grease. That will be my plan moving forward.

Well that doesn't make me feel very good. I did the same, as I noticed how white they got. But I also applied some 3M Vinyl Protectant after the Magic Eraser, so hopefully that protects it. Thanks for the heads up.
