Seriously, why do you feel the need to ridicule others is trying to make a point. It gets tiring.

Why not just state your point, "As are those who elect not to get vaccinated, nor wear masks, nor hide in their basements. I certainly don't hear you clamoring to defend their ability to choose for themselves."

Just a bit of hyperbole, Jim. Not directed at anyone here...

There is a difference in choosing to protect oneself versus choosing to risk harm to others.

This JUST barely went below 100% of ICU beds occupied. They used to track daily values over history but after the governor whined it was stopped, so I can't show you the history from tmc.edu.

More vaccination would mean more beds available for you and I if we need them, based on raw data, no scientist had to convince me. That's why, While you may have a right to chose still (and I know you already vaccinated, so it's not meant for you specifically @Lurch, but for those still holding out) I'd rather you chose to vaccinate. Get out of the ICU for preventable issues so those without a choice can have access to them.

Beds in Houston were rarely over 50% occupied in ICU before Covid. Folks are being "Cured" but stick around for the long term effects.

At this point the risk to others is their own risk. The vaccine and boosters are out there. Boost up and wear the fanciest mask you got, if you must go outside.

Why do you dismiss the children who have not had an opportunity to get vaccinated and those of all ages who are immunocompromised?

Sorry I'm a little rant-y today. Saw more than one person today walking outside by themselves with masks on. Come on - where does this messaging come from. This strikes me as mentally unhealthy/crippling as someone with OCD compulsively washing their hands every 10 mins. But better believe this person is doing because of the science. :winkingthumbsup"
That could have been me. I found myself driving home alone late last night with my mask on after being in the hospital all day. I just got so used to it, I completely forgot I had it on.
Did the same today when I left to go get food....got to the drive through and took my mask off to talk.
Pity you assume they are doing it because they are OCD. Perhaps if people weren't OCD about hating masks, they'd think of a positive reason why people wear in those situations.

Apologies, but I don't understand this diagram. If TMC typically has 50% of ICU beds occupied, and are currently near 100%, is the balance Covid patients or is something else going on in Houston?

I have no clue what is going on. Before covid Normally 50% of beds were open. Now 100%+ of beds occupied until a week or two ago when it finally went under 100% again. I don't know if we import them too from other areas, but ICUs have been packed.

Here is my personal opinion about wearing masks. It is about money. First you do not have to wear them at concerts or other large venues such as professional sports. why IMO it is about making money. Now again in my opinion schools are requiring children to wear masks because they do not want to be sued. Ie again about money. Now don't get me wrong I do think masks help but I also believe it is more about money then our children. Just my humble opinion.[flag]

Schools are not setting the mask mandates, the state governments are. This is why people showing up at school board meetings and acting like assholes to board members are idiots.

The people showing up at school boards are not there just for masks. What some schools are pushing on our kids is disgusting and will be fought tooth and nail by the parents and rightfully so.

This is not quite true. Not all schools are driven by state policy. Mine is not for example and thankfully driven by local policies.

“More than half of all states have no set policy on masking at educational institutions, leaving the decision up to local and county governments to decide when and how to enforce mask mandates.”

Just wow... - do you ever read or try to understand the post before you comment?? I didn't say they are OCD, I likened it to the crippling affect that OCD has on people that have OCD. And this is just straw man argument that you are oh so good at that has nothing to do with my point. Either you know it and you simply are so stuck in your narratives you don't care to listen or you really don't care enough to read the posts before you spew. As much as you want to talk around it, there are people out there that think they are at risk of covid taking a walk outside by themselves which is a terrible state of mind and only adds to misery and chaos that covid has caused - they didn't end up in that understanding by themselves but through the terrible mainstream messaging of fear and doom which is largely motivated by politics and money.

In NC its done by county and primarily based on Covid rates....but I think they have leeway. Its not done on a school by school decision. That would be dumb as hell since schools don't employ epidemiologists and can't afford to work through such policies!

I did not say the schools have the say-so In mask mandates and I agree that would be dumb. It is the same here and driven by county and local policies based on Covid numbers. It should be that way since it’s much more granular than some big govt wide-sweeping policy across a whole state. That would be dumb since not all counties share the same populations or infection rates, yet some states are ran that way. Thankful;y mine is not!

In PA the state set the school mandate and the school board has no choice but to follow the mandate. Showing up and yelling at the school board members over something they have no control over is ridiculous. My wife's daycare is licensed by the state and must follow the state mandate also. Parents bitch to her every day over something she can't control or change, even after they are told that it's not her decision they still get pissed.

Are they reporting staffed beds available?

locally the news reports fail to make the distinction between actual physical capacity vs staffed capacity when reporting on the overcrowding at the hospitals.

Travel agencies are currently offering $8800+ a week for med/surg nurses here. (13 week assignment) thanks to the state vaccine mandate.
