Hi all, been a passive forum reader for months and have finally decided to pull the trigger!

I've had my eye on the 242 LS for a couple years now but when I took my wife to the Atlanta boat show and she decided the 242x is the boat for us! So that part was easy... Now that we've been shopping we're finding that Georgia dealers are pretty set on MSRP plus dealer prep fees plus transportation, etc.
Anyone have better luck getting Yamaha dealers to negotiate on price this time of year? I don't consider myself a savvy negotiator so any and all advise or expectations are greatly appreciated.

Thanks and excited to become an active member!

You have great taste @Rod5. Most seem to say there is not much budging off MSRP but they may throw in accessories to get the sale. You are early in the year. They have their orders in, some inventory and lots of time left to move them, so I expect your leverage is pretty weak as demand peaks with the season starting right now. Others actually purchasing recently may chime in and there are certainly opinions about the various dealers. Very excited for you!

Yeah....since the 242X is their top of the line boat and brand new for this year, I'll bet most dealers are going to hold to MSRP until at least mid season. Then, if they have more stock in the 242Xs than they planned for (IE they arent selling as well as they expected), then they will begin to budge a little.

The only way you are going to get them to budge at all is to have a really good comp boat that you can TRY and negotiate against. IE---we've been looking at the Moomba xyz and it is 67K and has everything the Yamaha has and more....a better wake, more ballast, etc etc, and see what they say.

The other approach is as @Seadeals suggested....you end up paying MSRP, but get them to throw in a mooring cover and perhaps an extended warranty, saftey package, anchor etc....

You should be able to buy at MSRP without dealer prep and any extras. I would make that offer and let them know you are a buyer but out the door price at MSRP. Every dealer charges different add on fees. These are basically pure profit. If you have a local dealer that is a couple hundred higher I would buy local. Any service work is usually expedited if you bought the boat at that dealer. Unfortunately it is not like buying a car.

Up here in the north you can get msrp out the door including a bunch of extras like galvanized trailer, covers, bumpers, ropes etc etc as well as a 5 year YES warranty. No prep or delivery fees at all.

Thanks everyone, this is all very helpful. We're on a waiting list because they have sold out of their initial allocation plus 3 more that haven't been delivered yet. I didn't expected the most expensive modle to sell out so fast. Certainly tends to give them the upper hand leverage wise... Hopefully ours will arrive in a few weeks.

Did you buy it already? If not you might be able to get a better deal, and/or quicker delivery if you are willing to do some driving.

Yep same place Mike T. So how do you like your VR instead? They (the VRX) caught my eye too with more features, but something about the Yami really has our attention... Was it just price/negotiations for you or that and the features of the VR?

My wife and I were hooked on the Yamaha. Started out looking for a deck boat. That's all we looked at at the Atlanta boat show. Then I found this forum and like you have been a passive reader. Really love the look and features of the jet boats and Yamaha was our first choice, but I to!d our salesman that I couldn't make a purchase this big without a test ride. So he setup a test ride for us at the lake lanier location. There's also a Chap dealer close by so I decided I might as well do a two for one. It was a cool windy day and the water was choppy. To us the Chap seemed to cut through the water a little better. The bow Sat higher it felt more sure footed. The Yamaha is a great boat, but for us the Chap was the better choice. We made our decision before we started negotiations.
