Bimini 2014-June 22

as the date draws near :):) here is a web page i frequent often http://passageweather.com/ click to the area, then scroll down for wave height. last year looked a lot like todays... you can change the date for a forecast..or hi the animate button and it will scroll thru the forecast.....

Here is another way to see the wave info. I like the National Weather Service, http://forecast.weather.gov/shmrn.php?mz=amz651, because I prefer the info in number form rather than charts, just my preference.

I am glad we are not leaving tomorrow morning, it would be a rough ride over.

An earlier post recommended that our captains meeting be located at Bokampers since there would be ample dock space for everyone to attend. Its about 2 miles north of the Bahia Mar and reachable by boat. I'm awaiting a return phone call from them to determine suitability for sure due to our group size.

Regardless of the location, I'm thinking 5pm would be a good time to kick off our meeting. Does anyone else have other opinions on this?

5pm might be a little early for the folks planning on stopping in Savannah, GA on Saturday. They probably won't arrive at the launch until 3pm and fully in the water by 4pm. Then they would need to check into at least the marina before heading to the restaurant, marina close at 6pm.

7 pm then? I talked with Bokampers. They have almost 400' of space to tie up boats. They don't charge for a meeting space.

I think 7pm would be better. That should give everyone plenty of time to launch, check into the marina, and the hotel before the captain's meeting.

I know I missed the crew count way back, but I have a total of 6 including myself.

For those that have not been to Bimini before and are not exactly sure what to bring this might help. Think of this trip as a camping trip but instead of sleeping in a tent/trailer/rv you are sleeping in a condo with a full kitchen. You need to bring any food and drink that you want to consume as mentioned before the only thing easy to find is alcohol and it is cheap there.

Also, now that @RobA has found out there will be a big fishing tournament starting the Thursday we are in Bimini, dining out on Thursday and Friday will be tough with the added crowd because there is really only 2 restuarants, 1 at the Big Game Club on North Bimini and 1 at the Bimini Beach Club on the southwest tip of South Bimini.

Our crew is planning our dinners as follows: [edit moved BBQ to Tuesday]
Monday - restaurant
Tuesday - Honeymoon Harbor BBQ Beach Bash present by @Bruce
Wednesday - restaurant or eat in, fish we caught plus sides brought from home
Thursday - eat in, fish we caught plus sides brought from home
Friday - eat in, complete meal brought from home

Got our boat back! Brand new port engine! Thanks Cycle Springs for all your hard work! Got it back the day they promised! Washed, waxed & ready to go!! Jim is happy…so far! Lol! Got to break in the new engine! Before the big day!!

So I did some research on customized mugs. I was looking at the 24 oz tumblers that are like a Tervis tumbler with lid.

To set up a mug with the jetboaters logo on it and some writing such as "Bimini Fling 2014", the cheapest I could find was in the $23 a cup range. The custom 2-3 color logo really drives up the price for setup, etc. Single color imprints are pretty cheap. The site I looked at was discountmugs.com. Base cup was only $3.63, but goes to over $7-$8 with CMYK imprints, plus other fees.

Tervis mugs would be $24 with a standard artwork such as a Margaritaville imprint, plus customized lettering. Each boat could customize theirs if they wish with boat name, peoples names, etc. If we went with the jetboaters.net logo, then the Tervis price goes up to $30 each.

All of these are pretty darn expensive. I am going to pass on a doing a group buy as I think this is out of most peoples range for what they wanted to spend. Tervis doesn;t seem like a bad way to go for those that want to do a customized mug.

Thanks for checking into this, but I think you're right about the price point...

@andy07sx230ho, any news on the t-shirts?
I agree on the price point of the mugs.

Shirts - I was hoping to have a final design by Saturday or Monday but no luck. I have sent another request this morning for a design update but so far no response. I will keep you posted.

I am going to poll my crew and see if they are interested in mugs. t-shirts for sure though...

Alright the shirt design is finally done.

I have asked the questions about shirt color availability, long/short sleeve, and method of ordering (group or individual). Once I have that info I will have a better idea on price. From what the Jetboaters.net short sleeve shirts cost the price should be no more than $20 and the long sleeves shirts I would not expect to be much more.

[addition]
the graphic on the front of the shirt is the same size on the Jetboaters.net swag shirts, about 4" from left to right edge.

Chrissy you have been stricken from the list (You're still there but crossed out). Hopefully in 30 days you guys can get the confidence that you need from your boat back and re-join us! (At which point I will re-activate you :) )

I wish you guys the best of luck!
