Bimini 2018

Glad to see this thread. We are considering Bimini trip 2018. We are in Raleigh, NC (@bronze_10 @Julian @Dan_NC) and we can do June. Year round school go back 7/9. Only concern is making crossing with young kids.

I have heard rumors there maybe two trips one in June and the normal one in July but only rumors from what I understand I have not heard for sure yet from the guys running the show.

Robert, that is no rumor as you know. @Andy S and I have been discussing this for some time and I am working with Bimini Sands to secure both date ranges.

PS. Those date ranges will be announced before the end of the year, likely in late November after arrangements are made and discounts are agreed.

Everyone who has joined the Bimini User Group will be notified in the initial annoucement.

We will have a 8, 6 and 4 year olds with us. If the conditions are questionable we will wait. We also will go early in case a day or two make it much more pleasant

Welcome @vanmurray ... u just missed us last week as we did our end of season run from new bern to cape lookout... we have get to gethers in the area.. normally falls lake.. in the spring @robert843 and @Andy S put on a run to charleston from different areas for an over night run... welcome aboard.. look forward to meeting u and your family.

A group of 192s that might run out of fuel crossing from Haulover on their own is what I consider a nightmare scenario.
Understand.. you had me nervous.. ha..

Is the schedule always to leave on a Monday morning?
Since my tow is an oversized permitted load, I am only allowed to drive mon-fri during daylight.
I'd have to drive down Friday and wait out the weekend for a Monday morning departure.
Upon returning on Friday afternoon, I'd have to wait out that weekend to drive back on Monday.
It's doable, just not preferred.

As far as I know In Fl you can travel sat and sun daylight hours if under 10 foot wide.??

@Berrie, where are you towing from?

@tim h has not had weekend issues with towing.

The Monday to Saturday plan is so that everyone has the weekend before to get there and the weekend after to get home.

@Bruce I am towing from Albany, GA. It will take me a full day to tow down to FLL. I have to stop at all weigh stations, so they will know I am over 10'.

How much salt water experience do you have?

Worst case scenario is that you spend two extra days at Bahia Mar which is a really nice facility with Beach on one side and a marina on the other. We will be able to book discounted rooms and slips for extra days. Many choose to.

@Berrie its likely over the next 8 months as the trip comes together you will find atleast one member of this group who would be willing to depart a day or so early and I'm sure one in Bimini you will have no problem finding a boat returning on Friday.

IF we go in 2018, my daughter says she wants to go....so that limits me to the week of July 4th (due to year round school schedule). Not at all clear what we will do at this point - if we go.

@Berrie
I am sure that you will find others with a shorter towing distance that would be willing to leave a day or two early :winkingthumbsup";););)

I'm 9'9" in beam, I don't stop at the weigh stations.
