Bought a new 2017 Yamaha 212X

Well, not me ...but my friend did.

He has spent the last few months with a SX190. He and his wife quickly found out how their kids are actually waterbugs in disguise. They came home from a trip to Table Rock a few weeks ago and started the process of finding a bigger boat for their family. The research led to a blue 212X. Nielsens in northern IL gave them a very fair deal which included trading in the 190.

For those of you in the Chicago area, Nielsen's has a 2017 212 Limited S in the showroom. We crawled all over it. This helped my friend confirm the 212X was the correct boat for them (Limited S and 212X are nearly the same).

I was thinking the same. I would prolly lose 10k if I took my 3 month old boat in But in the grand scheme if he needed this larger size whatever amount he lost in trade I'm sure was the right decision and worth it. Has a boat now he will love every minute driving and entertaining kids and friends. I could see myself in a 2016 242 limited S E series black and red (don't like the 2017 color scheme as much as they flipped the black and red parts). But we will enjoy and be happy in the 2015 SX210 for many years before we will consider upgrading. Will take finding a 2016 SE for the right price used in a few years and hopefully being able to sell mine for a decent number. Until then the 21 footer is doing awesome for us and we love it

Wow; I'm excited about this one. Built in speed control, built in tower speakers, factory SeaDek (removable no less!).

I have to admit that I sat in a 2016 212X and was not impressed over my 2008 212X. Everything feels thinner and cheaper for some reason. The cushions on the older boats just seem way more substantial and luxurious, however from the pics, this 2017 looks sweet.

Curious that they want to the dual captains chairs instead of the J seating. I'm also a really bummed that the weight of boat has gone up by almost 600lbs?? (2016=3060lbs, 2017=3616lbs??). That means that my 2014 Explorer would very likely be overloaded when the boat is filled with gas, anchors and a dual battery setup.

Very tempted to open a discussion with one of the dealers here; although Yamaha has a history of jacking the prices on us Canadians (ie: 2016 212X was $50k USD, but $75k CAD!!!). Yamaha doesn't post their CAD pricing on their Canadian website.

It is a very nice boat. (Judging from the LS)
The quiet cruise and hinged seats being the two most impressive things to me. I like the storage access in front of the helm. I hope to be on my friends in about a week.

I think he was talking about the dry weight, not the ballast on the 212x...

I would guess the extra weight comes mostly from the hull changes since it sounds like they beefed up a few spots for noise reduction, etc. Maybe the tower weights a bit more than previous years? And that new 7" screen in the dash must weigh a ton more than the old dials.
