I haven't mounted my fire extinguisher yet. Its been rattling around in my storage compartments.

Whats a good place? I cant decide. Lol
Inside the center console somewhere? Or somewhere else?

Id like to have it accessible, but don't want to look like Fire Marshall Bill.

I put mine in the head compartment. Tried to get them above the waterline and leak levels. Do NOT drill too far into the white bulkhead next to the head. Glad I looked before drilling two holes into my gas tank!

I have never mounted mine for one reason. I have never used it and it reads discharged every spring. Mine has a lifetime guarantee and cant be re-charged so they give me a new one every year as it is still in the box with the original seal on the pin. Not sure why its happening but I'm not paying for a new one every 12 months when it is supposed to hold a charge. Fox 40 purchased from Canadian Tire.

I mounted mine just below the little side pockets to the left and right inside he changing room. If I lift up the console door it's within arms reach but isn't in the way when you step inside
.

Man, i would consider buying another brand or kind. I wonder if it's the temperature, but needing a new extinguisher every year sounds suspect to me. Even if they are free, if they don't work in a fire... That would not be good.

Yah. I'm sure its temp related. Do need to souce a better one and protect it from the cold. Every spring I'm ready to head out for a long weekend at a cottage and remember to check the extinguisher. It is always discharged so I run back to the store and swap it out on the way to the cottage. Just a last minute thing. This Fall will be different. I wasnt seriously suggesting the annual swap and should always have one that works.

Good location & tip.
I took off that panel yesterday to peek behind. Yep, the tank is right there. No long screws!
It looks like that tank can come out easily if needed. Thats a good thing.

I really like this location.

I really like this location. It doesn't seam to be in the way walking around the console or if you are sitting in the seat turning to the side.
I took a pic of the mounting location for reference:

I have one in the console and another under the port seat.

Finally mounted mine this weekend.
I put it up in the bow storage under the port hatch.
(Secured to the insulated cooler). No, the screws did not go through. The insulation is pretty thick.

Figured that if there ever was a fire, it would most likely be in the stern. Wanted to keep it somewhere I could get to it quickly and away from danger.
I wanted to mount it In the cockpit somewhere, but it just wasn't feasible.

Mounted mine in the gunnel next to the rear jump seat. Fit perfect on the small gunnel wall. Never liked having it mounted in a locker or storage area for fear if something happened I may panic and forget what storage area I had it in. I prefer out in the open.

It's not temp related for the ones losing pressure. It's because they are cheaply made using plastic valves and components therefore they will leak down. For something to fight a fire you don't want to skimp out. I would go with an extinguisher made with quality design and metal components over one that's easier on the wallet.

If interested you can learn a bit about fire extinguishers in this thread https://jetboaters.net/threads/information-about-fire-extinguishers

Ideally you want it a good distance away from the engine (what is most likely to get on fire) so you aren't trying to get the fire extinguisher out from somewhere close to the flames. I mounted mine behind the helm for this reason (admitedly a 242x). I think I'd put it in the storage/changing area of the console if I had an FSH.

I have 2 on each boat.. 1 in the helm access and one by the battery switch in the 242LS, 1 in the changing room and 1 by the battery switches in the 190FSH.

One concern about keeping a fire extinguisher in the console changing area is that the gas tank is in there.

It wouldn't be a good place to be if a fire is breaking out.

It would be a good place to keep a second one though...
