I'm in the market for a used 2005- 2010 21' or 23' yamaha here in the next year. I think the larger boat would be nicer to have more room in, but I'm wondering how much fuel efficiency you sacrifice going from the 21' to the 23' since they're running the same engines. Does anyone have an idea about how much different they really are?

Keep in mind that that 210 models have different engines than the 212 and 230 models and that some 2005 and 2006 230s have standard MR-1 engines while others have HO engines. These variations in engine can change fuel efficiency.

Is the difference in the HO and non-HO engines enough to warrant not looking at the 2005 and 2006 model years? Are there other substantial changes starting in 2007 that make it a better boat?

Different seating layout, bigger storage room and much higher freeboard.

HO Is available on engines prior to 07. All 07+ are HO.

Many of the 2005 & 2006 230 buyers opted for HO engines or at least their dealers did. Non HO engines are rare in 230s but are the only option in 210s.

The change in engines makes a difference in fuel economy but less of a difference in usage. I enjoy having ~ 320 HP instead of ~ 240 HP but I have a friend who did some impressive wake surfing behind an AR210.

I attached an old fuel analysis spreadsheet someone created a while back, I think it was based on boattest.com data.
