Looks like you have been staying on course after reading this post from the beginning of this thread.

Good eye! Thanks for hanging on for 25 pages. The wife had her hand on the tiller for this one. I am looking forward to getting her up here where the bulk of the refit will be done.

Brought the catamaran cabin table home for refinishing over the Winter. It is 33 years old and showed its age and a couple of attempts along the way of refinishing, it was rough. It is a cherry plywood veneer surface with a solid wood trim around the perimeter. I am in the epoxy stage now, so it will look glossy. I will apply satin 2pt poly as a final coat.

I first replaced the old binding brass hinges with stainless steel.

Table surface before.


Keep sanding but be aware of the veneer thickness.
I had not sanded off enough of the old finish and it was obvious.

So I sanded that off and tried again...
2nd attempt at putting down epoxy, much better.


Mixing West Systems epoxy 105 resin and 207 hardener. I use pumps for metering.


2nd coat of 3 or 4 epoxy coats.

We bought a few new pieces to replace older worn out equipment.

First…

A new ATN spinnaker sock to help a short handed crew deploy and retrieve the orange spinnaker sail. Purple spinnaker sheets, control lines, in the foreground. 42’ long, had to use the floor of her shop to get it in there without twisting it.


And a new Dickinson 2 burner stove top for the galley.

Thanks, wife has a good eye. Out with the old. We liked the 22” 12v Majestic TV on the Bene. It will stay with the Bene. As our eyes get older, we choose bigger and she also got this TV /dvd player for the cat.

Update on the table...Finished the final coats of poly, sanded, steel wooled and waxed. Now that I have the process down I will finish the leafs. We like a satin finish



Got the Captains approval.



One thin spot of veneer in the back corner of the table. Not perfect, but I hear that is a direction, not a destination.

A new saga begins...bringing a 36' PDQ catamaran from RI to Lake Champlain, after the NY canal system opens in mid May. Many replacement part are ordered, some installed already, others done in the next month or so. Once here we have plans to build a new bimini frame and bimini/dodger with the frame bender on site. Neither of us like the "lines" of where the current one mounts to the deck.

The new helm seat Pedestal arrived today. Mounting, for now, the original Todd Cape Cod seat. The old pedestal was modified beyond my liking. Also, with no seat bolster an adjustable height seat will be beneficial at the helm.

also...I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure that eggs are not in the nut family. And that is a shit-ton of spices (although pretty low impact on space/weight). I don't see extra batteries for flashlight, radio, or other critical emergency equipment. Also, duct tape? plumbing sealant tape?

Gorilla tape, Teflon tape, electrical tape in my tool “kit”. Lifeseal and 3m sealants are included.
