I've looked and looked but can't seem to find the port on my 2012 212x. Anyone here happen to have knowledge of where the port is located on this boat?
Just hooked up my monkey tail and had to train it to get it working. Some tips and maybe some superstitions that worked and reminder on the forum for me the next time I use the software.
1. Check USB port is assigned COM 1
2. Do not start YDS software yet or plug the USB plug in the USB port
3. Hook up cable to port engine connector
4. Bump or you can start port engine for a few seconds (without water) turn engine off and on (do not restart the engine) . Your cable light should be lit
5. Important!!! you have 15 to 20 seconds to plug in the USB plug, start the software and hit enter.
OK you should be in communicating with the ECU Whew!!!!
Hope this helps someone. Starting with the Port engine may be a superstitious but I started with the Starboard and could not get it to work until I did the Port Engine and switched to the Starboard which started to work for some reason.
The most important step is the 15 to 20 second time out period-be quick!!!
Having issues using my YDS I've scoured every set of instructions I can find using v 1.33 YDS dongle I got off eBay running it on a new windows 10 laptop trying to get hours for my 2007 Yamaha SX 230 I've followed all the instructions been trouble shooting this for hours it's on Comm port 1, all the good stuff, I've sequenced it in 20 different ways, connect engine, bump, connect laptop, run software and every other way
Tried it on both engines several times, uninstalled and reinstalled the software and driver's multiple times, restarted etc. Still getting communication errror.
I'm on dry land without wifi or water so been "bumping" maybe it's my use of the engine my understanding is that bumping is just turning the key to on and blipping the engine without actually starting it and leaving the key in the on position. Maybe that's not starting up the ECM I'm literally just blipping it for quarter of a second.
It's been a while trying to get this to work, any advice?
I just ordered the YDS and also have a 2007 Yamaha SX230. I have not searched for the plug in, but would you mind telling me where you found yours? Thanks. Jim

Look in the engine compartment on the starboard side. You will see a round black plastic cover, say around 8” diameter. Remove the screws and you will find connectors for the motors.
Follow steps listed above and you will be in business.
I have the same issue with my yds it well not respond.-I have tried and tried so many things it is not responding at all. took my comp. and yds to best buy to make sure it was set right and they said it should work. -- tried contacting supplier to ask why and no response.--the little red light on yds. well not come on but I don't no if it is supposed to.

I've got the YDS software installed on an old Windows 7 laptop with the cable that I kept only for this purpose, we sold the Yamaha last summer, if anybody needs it, let me know!
I am new to boating. Several months ago, I purchased a 2011 Hurricane SS231 with Yamaha F200TXR. I have had issues with the engine (unable to get it much above 4000 rpm, despite all new spark plugs), so I have purchased YDS software, installed it on Windows 10, and run diagnostics. Nothing obvious has shown up, yet. At this time I have one quick question about the information provided with this software. On the attached a file, in the section "2. Diagnosis Record," does "Occurred" provide the run-time hour when the error occurred? Despite its age, the engine has only about 155 hours of operation. Thanks.
That is correct. I am not familiar with your engine but I would be prone to just dismiss those as a glitch unless you have been having problems since then.

Yes correct..dont worry. Mine have 150, at hour 80 is showed overheat on both engines. At hour 112 it shows low oil light..and shows that went aw as y by hour 114 .so previos owner must havw added oil by than..if theres an issue my understanding it tells you occurred or failed at your Current hour time on engines.
Hey I 'm Scott, located in central NC. I know this is an older thread but I am searching for anything that will help. I have YDS 1.33, and a homemade cable. I found instructions online Yamaha Jet Boaters • Login followed to the letter and can not for the life of me get anything to communicate. All I get are "can not communicate with ECU" errors not matter how I connect., set it to COM port 1, uninstall and re-install drivers, nothing.
Julian said he would let a member borrow his setup and I am close enough to do that within a days time. Conversely, I would really like to troubleshoot my setup and find out why it isn't doing squat.
Any hints on this before I go mad? I understand this is why men drink lol.
I'm not a jet boater but I have a Cobia 244 CC with twin 2001 Yamaha F115s. My port side engine is acting strange and I would like to diagnose it myself.
Welp....I went and done figgered it out! I read somewhere that you need to connect the software up with the ECM within a 20 second time frame. That was my issue. So I quickly figured out how to start the engine, then boot the software and it connected right up. I was able to connect to both engines for comparison. My rough running port engine shows the TPS way out of spec so most likely = bad.
Also my YDS software has some functions grayed out, I don't know if it just my copy or what. Anyhoo I wanted to share in case someone else reads this having same issues as me. Try getting online with it in 20 seconds or less.
One thing that I discovered through fellow Jetboaters was that my YDS wouldn't work unless I had it set to run on com port 1. I'm not computer savvy at all but I would get the dreaded "communication error" until I switched my computer to run it on com port 1.
PS. I'm willing to help anybody out with a YDS reading too if you're in my area.
