Can you run it on a hose? I would go through this occasionally too. Having the engine running eliminates one item as a source of "lack of communication" at the right time/sequence.
@Mike Moody Are you sure that the ebay seller you bought it from advertised it running with windows 10, some sold there do not or so they say. I bought mine from a seller from Latvia who did. It worked for me. Bumping to me means cranking a few rpm but no start.
FYI I have cable and software in the New Orleans area. I just used it to diagnose a no wake problem. Tps sensor was out of adjustment. Very proud of myself. Wonder what that would have cost at the dealer? No less than 1200.00 at my local dealer, I guarantee it!

One thing that I discovered through fellow Jetboaters was that my YDS wouldn't work unless I had it set to run on com port 1. I'm not computer savvy at all but I would get the dreaded "communication error" until I switched my computer to run it on com port 1.
PS. I'm willing to help anybody out with a YDS reading too if you're in my area.

@doug goeckel the best way I can describe it is to get into the device manager and right click on the device. Then I believe you can select advanced settings, then it will show what com port it is set to. I believe that's where you can select com1.
thanks dennis that helped when you took your readings on eng. monitor there is (6) items with a on /off what are your readings as mine are different from one eng. to the other eng.

@doug goeckel im not exactly sure what each switch is. Which ones are different on the engine you're having issues with?
That screen is showing real time. I do remember testing each kill switch individually and seeing it make a difference with the on/off. So watch it while pulling the lanyard, you should see it go from off to on. then replace lanyard. Next try cleanout switch, neutral switch, ignition, etc.
Hello I just bought this cable. Does the led light up on the adapter? I have win 10 and updated the drivers. It see the yds adapter I set to com1 and it still gives me the can’t see ecm error. I tried windows 7 and two other laptops.
@Fshndad I don't recall my adapter having a light...each one is likely a little different. I can tell you that it is really finicky (sp?) and whenever I would hook up I usually spent 15 minutes getting it to get past the com error before I'd get a connection! I found it easiest to have the engine running (while sitting in the water) so you eliminate that as one of the steps (others here perhaps have better luck than I do with it!)
@Fshndad Welcome to the forum, glad you found us. I also do not recall an led on mine. As long as the drivers are compatible with Windows 10 it should work if you follow the steps by step process. Post 111, in this thread, goes over the steps that I used successfully. I assume you purchased your yds from a seller on ebay.
@Julian Spot on! With much more detail than my post #111. Did not mean to step on the OP, your toes but I was responding to a question that was asked of me. Really the only difference is my boat was on the trailer with no cooling water for the engines available. Hence bumping the engine and leaving key on.

No toes stepped on!!! I just wanted to be sure post #1 was accurate as that is what most people will find first and if I have something wrong, or could be clarified - I want people to point it out! I'd love to get the exact sequence to make it work 100% every time....
I got mine there too, Latvia lol. That is right, crank the engine do not start, leave key in on position. Your cable is different than what I have, no led on mine, but that should not matter. In my post #110 above, there was a "Pin protector" in the connector to the boat that gave me an error message until I took it out.

Yes, the shielded cable is an obd 2 connector one end, and connects to the YDS cable with a USB for the computer on the other end. The seller I bought mine from advertised it worked with Windows 10 and verified that with an email. I know others advertised at that time did not.
