Yamaha yds software connector

Reading through all the posts, I'm dizzy. Can anyone confirm where the YDS connectors are on a 2010 SX240? Thanks

On a 2010 SX240 or AR240 the YDS or YDIS connectors are behind the helm not in the engine compartment (Maybe that was another lesson learned). Remove the covering fabric and look for 2 separate connectors (Grey as shown in the other pics in this thread). Mine have very light labeling as well indicating port and starboard.

Found the connectors, no problem there. Got the YDS setup on Ebay $59.99. Thought all the software was set up properly, even had the seller get on my computer remotely and check, but the computer would not communicate with the boat. The tach would read comm problem. After days of trying, sent it all back. Back to square one.

Tried unplugging the bottom right plug on both tachs. No luck, same message. Bumping the starter/ not bumping. Restarting computer, unplugging USB/re-plugging USB. Batteries are good. Also tried holding my tongue on the left side and standing on opposite foot. Nothing seems to be working to make the computer connect to the engines. I'm on my second set of cables and programs. What am I missing?

You could possibly be having com/port settings issues. alot of times, PC usb-com emulation ports have a tendency to set settings wrong when installing drivers. Id check and see what the YDS software requires in Port speed(baud rate) and also flow control. (hardware, x on/x off) and configure port accordingly in your device manager. See pic below.

Yes, I believe that is heading in the right direction. Will hit the books on YDS requirements again later. Thanks.

Julian, Sorry, I'm not keeping up with you. Is SW in the name of the driver required for the cable?

I think he means driver SoftWare .... SW

Or did he mean Donald Driver the retired football player.

My cable came with a small disk that had a software driver for the YDS cable on it. (perhaps that is no longer needed...this was years ago)...

I was happy to find the connectors in the engine compartment, behind the circular plastic cover on the Starboard side. Thought that might have been the solution connecting there but no. Same message. The search for the solution continues. I will remove all the SW and start from scratch, not sure that will help since this will be the fourth time and with two different sets of SW and cables.

I just ordered one a month or so back and it still came with a disk with the drivers on it as well.

This may be my problem my system is 64, no?

You should be fine. Im still not seeing the baud rate and flow control settings comparison that yds recommends vs what you have set on the port.

Somehow the problem is serial controller. Not a computer guy. But that shows com port 2, no way to change that.

Finding the connectors on some of these. Boats is like finding a needle in a haystack..sorry to hear so many of u r having software/hardware issues.

Did you let windows install the drivers or did you make it search to the CD you got with the software? Cuz everything ive read elsewhere about the drivers should show that as a usb interface. not usb serial port. i think you have the wrong drivers installed for it. I can remote your machine tomorrow and help you if you would like. Im an IT Specialist/Systems Admin by trade.
