OK! Update time!
I will go back to this past Wednesday.
On Wednesday I completed the originally prescribed 4 weeks of Physical, Occupational and Speech therapy. They gave me a lot of the same tests they did originally and we compared to see how much improvement I had made etc.
In Physical therapy, I didn't just do squats, I was jumping on the total gym machine. I had a 100lb box that he made me lift onto the counter, then off, spin 180, touch on the ground, then lift back onto counter, repeat 20 times. One of the standard tests they do is to see how fast you can make it from position "A" to position B which are probably 20-25 ft apart. I am sure it's more specific and stuff than that, but I just did it. He just laughed because I actually ran and did it there and back by just reaching down and touching like basketball/football/soccer practice of way back in the day. I wasn't supposed to be able to do that, LOL! So under 3 seconds there and back and I was supposed to beat like 20+ seconds so yeah, I improved! Occupational therapy we did a bunch of brain teasers and grip strength tasks and pinch measurements etc. All good, although she said my grip strength is actually still low to national average for my age which is crazy because as a laborer that used to throw blocks up on scaffolds and shovel mortar, it should be my strong point. Stupid stroke.
The speech therapy we both agreed to schedule some more appointments. I do still have some hearing issues that are frustrating and she is working with some audiology specialists to see what can be done with this. For example, over the phone my brain really jumbles things up and it's hard to hear clearly. Music has actually been deleted from my brain.
If you can imagine not hearing music, and how frustrating that is, well, you would understand that I would agree to keep working on the brain therapy. I also can no longer sing as part of that and I have grown up in a very musical family and should be able to do 4 part harmony etc. not just sing the latest junk on the radio.
THURSDAY I met with the main doctor in charge of the rehab stuff. All was good but I gues I am ever so slightly less sensitive on my left leg yet compared to the right leg. It's better than it was, so it probably will come back. But, my main thing was asking about work. She said she couldn't give me a note because my insurance asked for a workers comprehension exam. Stinks because I am really ready to go do something! I guess it's already scheduled, and I feel ready if it's anything like my therapy. I still will need to take it easy when I go to work but having my uncle as my boss, we have already discussed starting with short days doing easier tasks. I think common sense is a better guidline than what some of the doctors say anyways. But, now my uncle says I need to have a doctors note saying I am medically able to drive. I don't know, no one ever took my drivers liscense but I mean, I can just go get a med card too. It's all about liability at this point.
But doctors frustrated me Thursday too. So, I only have recieved 1 disability check from my insurance. So I obviously call them up and they tell me the doctor filled out the form incorrectly. Seriously.... PHD means nothing sometimes. So I had to run around finding the doctor and getting her to fill it out right and then priority mail the envelope to my insurance. On top of that, I still have this 47,000$ bill on my desk for a helicopter. I call the chopper company up and they have a whole division that deals with insurance stuff and chasing the money. They tell me it's been denied twice and they are in the appeals process. Frustrating but out of my hands.... OR IS IT? I call insurance again, and it turns out that the chopper company has only ever send the standard form in, and never even has called to see what is needed for payout. Guess what it is. A note of medical necessity from the doctor I first saw at the first hospital. Lady on the phone from insurance says there isn't even a standard form for it, it just needs to explain what was necessary and sign it. Fine. I remembered, somehow, his las name, google it, drive to his personal office, talk to secretary, secretary is confused, brings out his medical assistant, and I basically write the whole leter up for him and tell this lady to get him to sign the bottom so I can send it in. Oh, he can't do that because he isn't here today.
Needless to say, they weren't gonna give me his house address, lol!
So, FRIDAY, I am repeating all this to my uncle at the shop at 6:15 AM because well, I wanted to be there for work, and he just kinda laughs at me cuz I'm all worked up. lol he's right, I need to cool it. I am actually one of the most calm people you will meet, but I was a little hot yet from having to tell these doctors how to do things and taking care of stuff that the chopper company could have done by just making a phone call.
So, it rained all day today, but I have a 16" concrete saw, a sledgehammer and a oversized pry bar. Monday, I'm going to start taking apart my driveway where my culvert is along with the concrete on either end. Thursday I also saw planning and commission and they said I can replace the culvert with no permit so I am gonna make that my job until people will let me go to work.
So how am I doing? overall, well. Just really ready to go go go!
Of course, I still need to finish my boat repair, so that should probably be Monday I guess.
I also gutted the front half of the inside of my camper and am looking to redo the floor, walls, some of the cabinets, and I gotta fix the A/C. Maybe it's the stress I put on myself that caused a stroke? ha!
