I can answer the TM part. Factory mount works great. Really simple and fine. No need to reinvent. Quick detach bracket is a must. About $180. Min Kota RTA 54.Howdy folks- long time lurker, first time poster. Finally took delivery of my 255 FSH Sport E! I’ve been out twice already and it really is an amazing boat! These have been lake outings but I have plans to drag it down to the coast (1hr 30 min away) for some offshore fishing. I’ll be sure and post pics and vids when I have some.
Anyway, (and maybe this isn’t the best forum for these questions), I have some upgrade questions for y’all. I’m researching the cobra jet drive things as well as a Minkota trolling motor (72” shaft). I’m also looking at putting XM weather on my Simrad. This will be my first upgrade.
QUESTION 1: So, to get XM weather on my Simrad, I believe I need to get the WM-4 module first ($500). Anyone ever installed one of these before? Easy? Better left to professionals?
QUESTION 2: I’ve seen some conflicting things on the trolling motor mount. I think we all agree that the 72” shaft is required, but what’s the consensus on the factory mount/plate that came with the boat? Will it work? Also, what about a quick detach mount? I only intend to use the trolling motor when fishing. Doable?
Thanks in advance everyone! This is my first post. Hopefully I can add value to this forum by answering future questions and posting vids/pics of any 255 fsh stuff!
Awesome - great to know! Do you have this setup? Got a pic? Thanks again TommyBI can answer the TM part. Factory mount works great. Really simple and fine. No need to reinvent. Quick detach bracket is a must. About $180. Min Kota RTA 54.
OK, sweet- thanks! This sounds like something I’ll leave to the professionals though. And while I’m very fond of my boat dealer, I often find we’re more educated than they are on these nuances. Anyway, a little bit of research never hurt anyone- so thanks for the info! Out of curiosity - what additional hardware do you have planned? Radar?I'm currently researching SiriusXM and weather etc myself.
I believe the boat comes with the Simrad 12 Go.
Therefore I don't belive it's compatible with the XM-4.
Instead we will be using the SiriusXM WM-3 (with tri-cable) via NMEA2000 connection.
I'm currently installing the NMEA backbone on my FSH for future hardware.
Ha! Exactly what I’m looking to do. I’ll be following your posts closely sir. Thanks!Radar, trolling motor, secondary transducer for side scan sonar, fixed Mount VHF radio possible (i use handheld now).
She‘s a beauty !Oh, and here she is…

Let me know top speed in chop.
I might preorder one for 2023.
Our 252's are around 43 to 45 mph.
Awesome - great to know! Do you have this setup? Got a pic? Thanks again TommyB
yes. 72. Perfect size even in chop.Beautiful! Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!
A few questions: 72” shaft? Also, what battery do you go with? I assume they mounted it in the “changing room” below/adjacent to the amplifier? I’m thinking Lithium ion might be the ticket for my setup.
Perfect - thanks TommyB!yes. 72. Perfect size even in chop.
group 26 marine batteries. I bought $100 ones from Napa and they’ve been fine. Noco onboard charger with charging plug.
considered lithium but couldn’t justify cost. And I’m not worried about 3 batteries on this big hammer. It can haul em no problem. Centered in changing room, forward.
