Thanks.

I didn't have any other method to keep the hub from spinning. This escape is front wheel drive only, I had both front wheels in the air, and it has an open front differential. I tried jamming some things in the other wheel, but just made a mess. Came up with the pickle fork and jackstand idea after standing there and staring at it for a few minutes.
Mom's '07 Escape had some brake issues. aBS ring was broken in the end of the CV shaft. Have to replace the entire shaft because the ring is press fit in place. After running to AutoZone for a 32mm socket, I had to improvise this madness to get enough torque on the axle nut to get it off....

Whole time I'm singing in my head "Time to do some sketchy shit doo-Da; Hope I get away with it doo-Da" :)

It worked and I didn't die!

Went ahead and did pads and rotors while I was in there......they were definitely close to failure.

Also.....effe you Ford and whichever of your engineers decided that this little wire clamp thing is the appropriate way to hold the caliper in place. Took 30min/each to fight these stupid things back into place.

Finished the brakes and went back in the house to find the toddler "helping" with Christmas cookies.......yea, he was a mess.

Next time, brea

Next time , just put the tire back on and lower the car back down. Safer, and no broken tools, or improvising

My jack handle is definitely my breaker bar too, although I’ve snapped the drive right off a craftsman 1/2” ratchet doing that and I havent tried again since.
I’ve never seen the pickle fork jackstand trick. That’s pretty clever!
Ya, 1/2" breaker bars will break with a long enough helper. Broke this one a few years ago taking the plow frame off my 3/4 ton, to get at the pitman arm.

Because of the tractor and machinery, I have a 3/4" Craftsman ratchet set but mostly large sockets. It does not mind working with a long piece of pipe.

Do you give these away or have a big family gathering??? Our willpower is too shitty to have too much good stuff like that around!!!
All wrapped and ready for distribution.
Here - this was the last batch cracked up to be packaged - this afternoon before I spent some quality time getting dark chocolate, caramel, and cracked nuts, off the kitchen floor, lol.

Grandma did some special packaging for my youngest's friend (she is her favorite):

He's a very nice boy, most well mannered of all my daughters' interests. He just started to drive, got a brand new Bronco.
And yes, just in case, he had been introduced to my gun collection.

The sunset tonight at about it's furthest spot South on the horizon. You can see the silhouette of Whiteface Mtn. over to the right. Daylight will last a litle longer now, instead of setting at 4:30pm.

Nothing like DIY, grow your own steak.
No pics yet but got woke up at 2am by a cow bawling non-stop(not normal unless somethings up). Got dressed and went to check only to find that we finally had the last calf of the season earlier in the evening. He had somehow made his way outside of the fence and was hanging out in the shed and couldn't figure out how to get back to the cow. I put him back with the herd and all was quiet after that but getting back to sleep was the next issue.

Thankfully I wasn’t charged a separate shipping fee for this.

I've had a 3° stretch while working way up north near the Michigan border this year, I think it was Monday, but the days are already starting to blend into each other. Not looking forward to the next few months if it's this cold already!

I'm off until next Wednesday, so it's time to finish the basement insulation project, so I can get on to the bathroom cabinet, then the... I'll be glad when I get a chance to finally rest. I'll be dead then, but still...

Dammmm... hope it warms up a bit before we head up your way in two days. I've been really looking forward to ski Jay Peak again, after twenty some years! lol

Meanwhile at the Swatskis...
The chef has arrived - to save Christmas.

It has only been a couple of nighttime temps and they will not be that low up in Jay during your visit. There will be snow up here.
