The articulating keel is pretty cool. I also like..... did I mention I think the articulating keel is pretty cool.

I don't know, I guess if I were into fishing boats it would be alright. Kind of seems pricey for what it is. I was kind of hoping to see something a little more creative than a center console.

Regardless, I hope it does well so they continue to come up with other new boats.

It's just not what we expect from Yamaha! We all are here because Yamaha (and the other jet boats thus far) have made good all around boats! Not wake boats, not go fast boats, not fishing boats, just all around good boats. Seeing the hull we know as Yamaha's 190 series and seeing it decked like that just throws us off. It will bring a whole new breed of boater to the forums! I am glad to see Yamaha branching out to other more specific genre's of boating. I know they won't make a go fast cruiser, but just maybe they will get into a cuddy boat? I don't know anything about center console boats as they are scarce up here and even the big lake they aren't common as the yachts/cruisers are. The trolling fishing isn't really on Lake Michigan as a big sport, but it offers a lot of other types of fishing. I like the perch!
So perhaps this is the type of boat that will be perfect for stuff like that, and for a fisherman, this could be a perfect compromise of a boat.

@LouDoo, Welcome Aboard.

My guess is that we will see a top speed similar to the 43.2 MPH of the SX190. Perhaps a little more due to reduced weight and drag.

I do not expect many of us with larger boats will consider a 190 FSH as our next boat. But I do expect the model to bring a lot of new owners to the JetBoating Life. I think it will be a winner in its market. Similar to the Boxster. Very few 911 owners purchased a Boxster but a lot of new people became Porsche owners.

Thanks for the welcome, as far as the power goes I'm not that familiar with Yamaha boats, so you're probably right. I'm also a moderator on the Seadoo Forum and in a lot of ways this boat reminds me of the Seadoo Spark, at least from a marketing aspect. To me it looks cheap, with the unfinished areas including the gunnel and bulkhead areas, and the upholstery looks cheap, also the lack of gauges. Kinda like the Seadoo Spark, cheap but gets the job done, but not with much style. But I guess the price point is also part of the marketing of this boat. The "deluxe" model just doesn't seem very deluxe. I still love a center console boat, I would like to see a cc jet boat with more features and more style.

Like it or not most boat owners including myself are impulse buyers and this boat just doesn't do it for me.

I was told that the top speed would be in in 42.3 range.
The new keel also counteracts the side to side sway a tall boat might encounter in wind and walking around the gunnels.

There is no doubt that this is an entry level boat. It has a lot of features and space for its value. Is it better than other similar cc boat manufactures? No but it's different....its a jet boat. Yamaha is thinking out of the box and bringing a new line to test the market. I think these boats will sell very well in the Gulf coast market and then we would see the $40k-$50k cc built on the longer platform.

I'm sorry but I'm not believing that 6" or 8" of "keel" is going to reduce sway enough to notice, help steer and track yes, sway/rocking no,

Well to tell the truth I'm disappointed. When this boat was "leaked" last week I was excited because I love a center console boat. IMO the boat needs to be a couple of feet longer, and needs more seating, its rated for eight but it doesn't look like it would seat eight. It probably would work well for a fishing boat, but not so well for a fishing/family boat. Also with one 1.8L motor it probably lacks the performance associated with jet boats, Yamaha seems slow in releasing specs. about this boat.

On the plus side especially compared to other boats the price seems very fair, $31K with trailer.

Sorry my first post is negative, but that's the way I see it, maybe next year they will have a model more to my liking, thanks for having me on your forum.

Lou
Welcome! I think this is Yamaha just dipping their toe in the CC market. I think it will sell well as a bay and back water fishing boat. And if that happens, it will be an easy move to take their 24' hull and turn it into a twin engine CC.

I agree completely. I had a 20' Shamrock and it was an inboard with a 14" Keel that was 10' long. It did little for a narrow boat for side to side sway bt it tracked like it was on rails. Later we had a 40' sport fish, 14' beam 30" keel and it worked as they described for side sway and stability at rest, specially in decent seas taken broadside it would rise and fall almost level vs teetering....

Like the way Chaparrel and Seadoo are within spitting distance to Yamaha :p
To answer your previous question about the new cream color..........The off white/cream isn't really as bad as it looks in the photos. It should wash out even more in the direct sunlight.

After looking over the photos better, there are a few things I would like to see chaged from a fishing stand point. First I would remove the console rod storage as well as the under gunwale storage on T top equipped boats. Typically rods will not stand under a t top and the walk area is tight as is all you would do is risk breaking rods, snagging rigging etc. Next I would relocat the storage to holders on the back of the t-top. I would also add factory rear spreader lights on the t-top for night fishing. I would also add a overhead electronics box on the top with a powwer buss bar ran up from the factory, then it is easy to add whatever you want. I can see this selling well with a lot of the mods undertaken by anglers who buy in the immediate future. This would be a great platform if carried to the 24' boats, skip the 21 as the 19 is so spacious as is with no motor in the way (thanks to the jet) I could see a serious off shore contender in the 24'. Just add more fuel storage. :)

Off white or more commonly referred to as "Hatteras White" in the salt fishing world is a must. Glad to see they did not carry the bright white, you would be snow blinded by your own boat if it was. Still very impressed with what Yamaha did.

Just to clarify...the FSH IS WHITE.
@Britboater had previous concerns of the cream color in the 242.

I can stand and sit with my legs fully extended in the console storage area.

You can store a crap load of stuff in here, should be able to store a wakeboard when the hatch is closed.

Photo is looking forward. It is hard to see but those are my feet under the storage area, legs fully extended. This is where your trolling motor batteries would be stored if you added one.

Here is a shot of the trolling motor battery storage area. Please forgive my low tech way of getting the pic on here!

This is the same photo angle that I posted above with my legs.

as a hard-core jet boat fisherman, i think they did a nice job on this entry level boat overall. all boats have compromises... this one really is a fishing boat with little wakesport appeal. keep in mind the shallow draft will allow fishing in 1 foot of water with the trolling motor mounted, but not with the jet intake. Is the washdown pump powered by the jet thrust, or is it a dedicated washdown pump? you have true 360 degree fishing around this boat because of the swim platform as opposed to an outboard. it would have been nice to see 12v outlets near the rear rodholders to make wiring riggers or a finder a little simpler. i wonder how this boat does in 2 foot chop....tough to tell by the pics.

for someone contemplating a true fisher like a lund or weldcraft or duckworth the price is reasonable to their 19 foot range with much more amenities and style. the fisherman, like me, totally get it. no doubt this style in a 23 footer would be more appealing to me, i actually think I will stay with my heavily fishing modded 230 because it really does do it all and it is safer in chop and weather. dual engines is also an important safety feature for me as well. In Bays and lakes, though, this new boat will rule the fishing world once you get the electronics and riggers in place.

I really like this new option. I think Yamaha created a nice package here. It's not the type of boat that I would own, based on where I live, but very nice none the less.

One thing I noticed was that they left plenty of room on the dash for sonar/chartplotter. Perhaps Yamaha will finally upgrade the Connext system for this purpose, as a factory option, and everyone will finally be able to upgrade their existing units to get the features that they have been wanting.

The wash down option seems to be powered by the jets and if i'm not mistaken I think it's something that could be easily rigged up on any of our boats. If you notice in the piture of the pump. there is a hose attached to the top of the pump. I'm fairly positive that is the supply for the washdown hose. All of our pumps have this nipple to attach a hose (at least I know mine does). I think all you would have to do is make this connection, run the hose into the hull and put a solenoid valve inline with it and then connect the other end to a nozzle, if you want leave it that way, or connect the other end of the hose to a thru wall hose fitting for a cleaner look. Then all you would have to do is start the engine, open the solenoid valve and wash away.
