New to this forum but hoping someone can help. I had my boat moved from the northeast to Texas a few weeks ago and attempted to put it in the water. First issue is we hooked up the two batteries incorrectly and blew several fuses. We have changed everyone that we can find. Now the boat will start but won't go into forward or reverse. Is there a fuse back in the engine compartment next to the cable that could of blown? im thinking I'll have it to take to the dealership here if I can't figure it out by Wednesday

Welcome Aboard @Sidney1982!

There aren't any fuses associated with the shifter, just a cable. I would think that if you can move the shifter handle but the gate won't go up or down. You may have a broken cable. Just my thought, but I will let those with much more knowledge than me offer up their ideas.

The shifter is stuck in neutral so the gate isn't doing anything.

It's possible that you may have something jammed around the gate somewhere that's preventing it from moving, or it could be that the cable itself has seized up. When you lived in the Northeast did you boat in salt water? If so that could have corroded the cable.

How would I know if the cable itself seized up? I did have in saltwater but it has less then 50 hours on it.

The only way I can think to know for sure would be to disconnect both ends of the cable then see if you could move it. Have you tried disconnecting from the gate to see if the shifter would move? That would help narrow down the problem.

Any other ideas @Bruce, @Speedling, @Julian, @Murf'n'surf ?

Can you manually move the gate up and down from the rear?
Can you disconnect the lever from the gate and move it in and out?
IF you can't do the first, but can do the second, then something is jamming the gate itself.
IF you can't do either, then something is screwed up with the throttles themselves and you need to pull them out.
You can use my throttle dropping thread for reference on doing that.

The only time I have ever had difficulty shifting was when something was lodged in the reverse bucket preventing it moving. Checking for any debris there would be my first place to look.

The shifter does have a neutral position switch but it is only an indicator it does not have any control over movement.

I believe there is a button at the apex of the shift lever. Pressing it will allow you to adjust the throttle without shifting. I am curious if pressing it allows your shifter to move.

FYI--Not all throttles have a button at the center of the pivot to allow you to move the lever without moving the buckets. Many people don't even know that the button exists. The photo below isn't our throttle control, but close enough:

Press on the round black circle at the bottom of this image (if your throttle has a round rubber circle like this). If you feel a button below the rubber circle directly in the center, it will allow you to disconnect the gate control from the throttle control. If it moves when(if) you can do this, then you know it is the gate control that is jammed.

If that is the case, disconnect the gate from the cable - there is a simple spring clip holding it on. Look at this thread for how that spring clip works...will make it easier to disconnect. If the cable moves once you've disconnected the gate...then it is the gate that was jambed and hopefully disconnecting it and wiggling it solves your problem. If with the gate removed that throttle still doesn't move...then your gate cable is seized. You could try lubricating it to get it loose.... @Geoff Cooper has a thread on how he does it here.

Good luck and let us know how it pans out. My guess is you have some road grit stuck in the gate....or your cable is rusted.
