So how risky is this trip with an SX190?
If we have Glassy water you will have a smooth enjoyable ride.
If not we will all have a bumpy ride. Your boat being shorter and lighter your ride will be bumpier.
Here are some fuel consumption estimates that I previously worked out based on reports of last years fuel consumption.
Boattest.com rates Upperdeck's 212X as
Top speed for the Yamaha 212X is 52.9 MPH (85.1 KPH), burning 21.3 gallons per hour (GPH) or 80.62 liters per hour (LPH). Best cruise for the Yamaha 212X is 27.5 MPH (44.3 KPH), and the boat gets 3.50 miles per gallon (MPG) or 1.49 kilometers per liter (KPL), giving the boat a cruising range of 158 miles (254.28 kilometers).
Here are Boattest.com rates for some models with higher consumption or smaller fuel tanks
Top speed for the Yamaha AR192 (2013-) is 48.6 mph (78.2 kph), burning 21.35 gallons per hour (gph) or 80.81 liters per hour (kph). Best cruise for the Yamaha AR192 (2013-) is 28.5 mph (45.9 kph), and the boat gets 2.68 miles per gallon (mpg) or 1.14 kilometers per liter (kpl), giving the boat a cruising range of 72 miles (115.87 kilometers).
Their report has the 192 burning 1.3 times as much fuel at 27.5 mph as a 212X.
Top speed for the Yamaha AR210 (2003) is 51.9 MPH (83.5 KPH), burning 29.8 gallons per hour (GPH) or 112.79 liters per hour (LPH). Best cruise for the Yamaha AR210 (2003) is 27.6 MPH (44.4 KPH), and the boat gets 1.48 miles per gallon (MPG) or 0.63 kilometers per liter (KPL), giving the boat a cruising range of 56 miles (90.12 kilometers).
Their report has the LX210 (AR210) burning 2.36 times as much fuel at 27.5 mph as a 212X
Top speed for the Yamaha SX190 (2012-2013) is 43.2 mph (69.5 kph), burning 11.9 gallons per hour (gph) or 45.04 liters per hour (kph). Best cruise for the Yamaha SX190 (2012-2013) is 23.4 mph (37.7 kph), and the boat gets 4.46 miles per gallon (mpg) or 1.9 kilometers per liter (kpl), giving the boat a cruising range of 120 miles (193.12 kilometers). (4.2 mpg at 28.3 mph).
Their report has the 190 burning 0.83 times as much fuel as a 212X
Top speed for the Yamaha SX230
(Non HO) is 48.1 MPH (77.4 KPH), burning 22.82 gallons per hour (GPH) or 86.37 liters per hour (LPH). Best cruise for the Yamaha SX230 is 22.0 MPH (35.4 KPH), and the boat gets 2.53 miles per gallon (MPG) or 1.08 kilometers per liter (KPL), giving the boat a cruising range of 114 miles (183.47 kilometers). (2.36 mpg at 28.2 mph).
Their report has the non HO SX230 burning 1.48 times as much fuel at 28.2 mph as a 212X
Boats burn much more fuel in the Ocean with waves than they do on calm lakes or even lakes with other boat wakes. I am not sure how much I burned but I burned a lot of fuel going 11 miles at 17 MPH at 9,000 RPM in rough seas last year. I should have been going twice that fast at those RPMs. I believe our fill up was over 30 gallons after driving less than 40 miles.
Upperdeck says that he burned 35 gallons on the the way there last year which is supported by reports of similar consumption by others on the trip.
Assuming that a
192 burns 1.3 times the fuel that a 212X does it would have burned
46 gallons.
Assuming that a
LX210 burns 2.36 times the fuel that a 212X does it would have burned
82.6 gallons.
Assuming that a
190 burns 0.79 times the fuel that a 212X does it would have burned
29.05 gallons.
Assuming that a
Non HO SX230 burns 1.38 times the fuel that a 212X does it would have burned
48.3 gallons.
All of the models above would need to carry extra fuel.
Newer twin engine 210 (3.98 @ 31.1 w MR1s), 212 (3.19 @ 27.2 with 1.8s), 230HO(3.41 @ 28), 240 (3.25 @ 31.7) and 242 (3.25 @ 27.5), models have similar fuel consumption to Upperdeck's 35 gallon consumption. Owners of these boats may want to carry extra fuel.
