Bimini 2014-June 22

Last minute preparations

VeVe guides are installed, lights are coming Tuesday. I think I'll feel a bit better with better visibility.

Not liking the forecast for Monday.... Hopefully it changes by the end of the week.

It rains almost every day in Bimini, typically late afternoon. Hopefully the seas are calm Monday morning and no rain.

Depends on the cover. How old is your cover? Is it a mooring or shipping cover?

I trailer with the poles out. The way the cover sucks down, I do not want to trailer it for that long with the pressure from the poles.

I will say I am on my 2nd cover too. My first one died Fall 2012. Seam gave out while trailering to the lake, shredded front half of cover... After the massive blowout of the cover.. looked closely and seams were the problem. The cover itself, held together well. Bought another.

Passageweather.com is showing rough weather to the south of us on Monday. Sail flow is showing 3' building to 5' for our crossing. I hope that passage weather is right!

Thanks for the cover info. That's what I normally do just never towed this far before. See you all soon!

When we get closer, based on the hourly forecast for the rain schedule, I would heavily consider leaving much earlier in the morning. Possibly shoot for 4-5 AM departure.

AGREED !!!!

With the run to Bokampers and back (8 miles) will the fleet be considering re-fueling prior to the crossing on Monday morning? we may be defined by the fuel docks opening hours.

Sunrise is at 6:30 AM and we will be approaching a new moon. Would you want to set off in the dark?

If its not raining I wouldnt be opposed. Really the goal is to avoid the rain and the chop. Light vs. Dark is last on my list of worries. I'm used to night boating.

Lauderdale Marina, http://lauderdalemarina.com/about-lauderdale-marina/fuel-dock/, is where we will get fuel on Monday morning and they open at 6 am. Topping off fuel is our limiting factor on when we can leave.

If we were all fueled up on Sunday night, then I don't have a probable leaving early on Monday, in the dark. The only concern is that if the seas are a little rough it is easier to handle rough seas when I am able to see them.

Maybe I should clarify, I dont mind driving in the dark if there are calm seas....
