Ecoboost Mileage

I tend to think that way but he is far from the first person I have heard that from in a 2500 diesel.
Perhaps their mileage doesn't go down much, but it will go down. It weighs 9500lbs....so there is no way you add 50% of its weight and it doesn't burn more gas.

No way he gets the same mileage.....physics doesn't work that way! :)

I do miss my Audi diesel! Went from 15mpg towing to 10mpg when I switched to 3L supercharged gasser.

15 mpg towing a boat over 5K? Perhaps your Audi was apart of the VW emissions scandal and the comp wasn’t telling the whole truth ? This may be a rhetorical question since is late.

In truth is was more like 14.5 (I rounded up) and I only got that when I kept to 55-60mph! I would get 29mpg highway not towing, and with a 26 gallon tank I'd easily go 600-650 miles on a tank (I could drive to my brother's house in Tampa on one tank from Raleigh-673 miles-I was empty at that point). Now with the new Q7, it only has a 20 gallon tank (which is STUPID because the diesel had a DEF tank too) - they made it smaller to make the MPG look better with less gas weight! So towing the boat sucks because I get 10mpg and only 20 gallons, so I have to watch out for the gas "gaps" in South Carolina on 95! They could have put in a 26-28 gallon tank!

I miss my 1999 3/4 Ton Diesel Suburban. My Tundra is the nicest truck I have ever owned but my favorite is still that 3/4 ton suburban. DynaFlow exhaust, 6.5 Diesel, 19 m/gal, 40 or 44 gallon tank I believe. Could pull a boat around the country and not feel it. No DEF!!! No plastic bumper, room for everything.

You should look into Duraburb in FL. They'll convert a modern 2500 Suburban over to a Duramax/Allison combo.

I have looked into it but the cost of the suburban has jumped further than my pay increases over the years. Sigh...if I had only played the lottery.

Why GM never offered this from the factory is beyond me.

Oh well, the new mini duramax burban is probably better overall anyways, with way better fuel economy and a very impressive tow capacity. I suspect that more people are interested in a 30mpg burban that tows 8k pounds than a 12k towing capacity one with 20 mpg.

I pull with a 2016 F150 FX4 with 3.5 eco-boost, 6 speed auto, with 34” Goodyear Wrangler ultra terrain AT tires. I get 10 - 11 mpg towing up and down the hills of northwestern South Carolina with a 212XE and both full of fuel.

Just towed 650miles with a 3.0T in the Q7. Cruise set at 75most of the way. 13.0mpg with 3 adults 2 kids and everything but the kitchen sink in the covered boat.

Because they would sell too good and last too long.

Diesel I assume? My supercharged 3.0 gasser only gets 10mpg at 70 (what year)

2017 3.0T. It has the 21in wheels.

Guessing my AR190 is a shade lighter and less air resistance than your 242XE. I did use it like a utility trailer though.

Rough start. Got here and was told the boat couldn't be parked on site. Despite calling ahead and verifying.......ugh....

Currently sitting in my relatives hotel side lot with his truck/boat blocking it in.

I'm well insured so I'm not terribly worried, just not an ideal setup.

Perhaps the 2018 supercharger sucks fuel while towing???

Could be a tune difference. Hard to say. I could tell a difference after the last fuel stop. Towed all but the last 100miles with the boat fuel tank near empty. Filled up the boat and I could feel the extra 20gal of weight. Was also getting hotter in the day and I'm guessing heat soak had set in by that point.

It ran decently, but spent very little time in 8th. Lots of time in 6th and 7th. Did much better with me modulating the gears in manual mode and using the paddle shifters rather just letting it hang out on cruise control.

Somewhat mimics the Ecoboost towing results. I get ~20mpg daily driving it and about 13mpg towing. My Sierra with the 5.3 V8 got ~17mpg daily driving and about 14mpg towing. Less difference between empty and loaded, but lower in daily driving duties.

I tow my boat with a 2020 Ford Explorer Platinum (3.0L Twin-Turbo 4WD/RWD) and average 22.8-23.5 mpg when NOT towing. Yesterday I reset the MPG monitor before I went to the lake. It's about an hour and 15 minute drive. Highway, back roads, and some mountain driving. Well, fugg me. I only got 11.7 MPG. The biggest problem with that is if I go to my favorite lake that is 2 1/2 hours away. My tank is small (21G) I'll have to refill on the way up. That's not going to work. I just entered the market for a new truck with dual tanks, if I can find one. Won't be this year. Went by the local dealer on Friday...all trucks have a different tag than the MSRP tag. Market value adjustment +$8,000...Fugg that

Not sure about other 1/2 ton trucks but you can get a F150 with a 36 gallon tank as an option.

If you get an F150, get max tow. It includes the 36 gallon tank. On the highway without towing I can get 760ish miles to the tank. Even if while towing it's half of that value, it's still 300+ miles.

I looked at that exact truck last week. They had the price bumped $8k.....so I'm going to wait until production gets back to normal.
