[USERGROUP=9]@HELP[/USERGROUP] have a similar issue. Underway the port engine cut down to 2K and then quit. Put into neutral and will engage starter but not turn over. Limped back to dock and then tried the following:
Checked electrical, safety switches, and pulled sparkplug and have spark and smell fuel.
So there is fire and fuel an crank. So I feel like I ran through the checks but still nothing. Anyone got any ideas?

So the starter spins the engine but it does not start? Did the spark plug you pulled look dirty? Did you see a spark between the spark plug and block?

I moved this to its own thread as replies to old posts dont get the same attention.

I gather there were no overheat warnings? No errors on the connext screen sys panel? (hold down the sys button to get to the diagnostic screen).

uh-oh I sure hope it is not what we have been reading about.

@RoughRider when you say it won't "turn over" are you meaning that it won't crank at all? Or that cranks, but it won't fire up?

Hummmm.. if there is fuel... spark.. and air..... the only requirement left is timing! Hope it's not the chain but it kinda sounds like it.

It cut down to 2k first - that's usually overheat...

OR
Something in the pump jammed it up good. Pull the pump and try to start the engines again.

I bet you this is it!

Would explain the initial symptom, too.

Don't ask why I came up with it.... LOL

To pull the pump, just undo the steering lever with one bolt, then the reverse gate bolt, then the 4 bolts that hold the pump to the transom. Pull it out, which sometimes takes a screwdriver between the tabs along the side to dislodge it all.
IF the engine starts and runs just fine with it all pulled out, then it's a pump issue.
IF the same problem exists... see timing chain issue threads....

So yes there was spark and not a dirty plug. Replaced at 10 hours and 3 months later at 26 hours.
Will try to isolate further this morning.
Good news is since it's holiday weekend, I won't even try to go about the amateurs this weekend, but still unhappy.
Kids not wakeboarding this morning is less positive, but getting them ready for life.

then the reverse gate bolt,
Or just use the spring clip that attaches the end of the cable to the gate (there so you don't need a wrench to loosen the gate and dislodge something that is jambing it while in the water--removing the nut while in the water risks donating the nut to the water god!)

And how is the oil level? Did it overflow to the fuel filter? I like the idea of the jammed jet pump as well. In my 2 cycle, you can pull out the plugs and turn the coupler by hand if is not jammed. If you can't spin it, the impeller is jammed.... not sure if that applies to the 4-cycle. Anyone?

The timing chain is always the other possibility.

Yes, someone did use a belt around the coupler - the round block connecting the crankshaft w/pump shaft - it should rotate with plugs out.
Can't find it now, but I do remember someone has done it, and it should work in theory. Thoughts, @Speedling ?

I guess the good engine would be your positive control.

Oil level is good. Checked all plugs look good. Pulled air filter. Boat is in water so haven't tried to pull pump yet. Warranty intact so don't want to get crazy.

You might check with the dealer first but I can't imagine pulling the pump harming the warranty.

This video does a good job of documenting the process

Of course hate to mention basics here as you likely have run through the checklist but to be thorough have you put the throttles in neutral, checked the clean out plug hatch to be sure that the kill switches are threaded tight and that your safety lanyard is fully in place?

Timing=compression in cylinders. Since Saturday is shot... May want to consider a compression gauge to check your engine situation. If it spins easily with the starter the pump can't be that bad. Air +fuel+compression+spark=boom... Something's missing.
