Error code 68

Don't know how to diagnos. Each motor has a separate ecu, correct? It doesn't make since why both went out. The only thing they have in common is the battery. At least that's what I believe to be true

ALL wires are correctly attached to battery???? And the battery in line fuse is good??? Fuses in engine compartment have been checked and are good??

From what I'm reading online there is a resistor in the switch they can go bad and even though the switch ohms out it can still be bad. I see you can clean the resistor but the instructions weren't clear.

Yes. And I just cleaned the battery terminals today. I did spray wd40 on the switches before they stopped woeking. I wonder if that messed up the resistor in the switch

110 for 2. I don't mind spending the money if I know for sure that's the problem.

I'm sorry.....it's not an ECU problem. I thought you have one motor with the issue. Long thread and I got confused.

WD-40 is a dielectric (non conductive). It has insulating properties rated up to 5,000 volts. That may have fouled up your switch that was working. You need to spray an electronic cleaner on the contacts to clean the oil off. Same goes if you sprayed it on any other contacts or the battery terminals.

Edit....misread last post.

Darn it!

I would order a new switch just for shits and giggles. Worst case you can sell it here in the classified section.

I find it very strange that both no wake modes went out at the same time, and you also said you sprayed the switches at the same time. So lets assume these events are related. So if you are certain the switches aren't fried (I still might get one from a dealer and try it...you could always return it), then what else could have been fried by a bad circuit due to the WD-40?

I think the switches operate the bypass motors in this diagram (#31)

http://www.yamahasportsplaza.com/oemparts/a/yam/50039ef5f870021f60a1160f/throttle-body-assy-1

So I wonder if the motors are fried, or perhaps there's a fuse somewhere fried. So I'd check to see if there is juice to these motors next. (I am not certain these bypass motors are what is attached to the no wake switches, but it looks like the only thing on the specs that could be how they work....). Hopefully others will weigh in with their thoughts....

This has been a bear to diagnose for other members....

I don't get error code 68 but my port no wake stops working after a few minutes of being underway. I haven't done any debug but my reading tells me the switch is likely bad.

X2 except mines the starboard side. I'm going to try and fix it next week. It drives me crazy when stuff doesn't work right.

Y'all are right. I'm stubborn. The switches are on their way out. I went out on the boat today and the No wake buttons worked on the starboard side but I had to push it a couple times. When I switched the switches I got the port side to work. Played with both and got both to work. But I still have to hit it a couple times to make it work. Thanks for the help

Thanks for keeping us posted on the details. This will help someone else down the road.

Cheers!
