has anyone replaced there steering cable is it hard. oem or aftermarket. best place to buy

i just bought 2012 ar240 and took it out and cables are stuck nothing but headaches but took cable apart at rear of boat it looks frade cable is junk i know a shop wont be cheap just paid 32k for boat dont want to spend 800.00 wondering if i can do my self i am handy have tools not sure if theres any special tools .from what i see hardest part is were it comes through back of boat looks like its fused some how whether its silicone or special sealant then big nut on back of boat not sure if i need remove propella etc to get in there take big nut off.

what cables should i get oem are pricey i see on ebay package 2 cables for 223.00


any advice please

Scott is correct, it is not hard at all. Easier with 2 people, but can be done with one. Definitely don't buy the cables from the dealer....unless your dealer has a reasonable cost for them!

I didn't cross reference those to your part number (which you can look up on sites like Yamahasportsplaza.com), but I doubt that would work as those are for a 19' boat and you have a 24' boat.

OK...looks like they match and the EBAY seller probably has the wrong info (although I didn't look up the LX #s). Up to you if you think they'll be right in the end....always some risk.....

Yamaha doesn't make the cables, they were originally made by Teleflex (which was bought by someone else)...so I would be surprised if anyone bothered knocking off Teleflex....so they are likely "OEM"....assuming they are the right part #.
