It's already that big of a jump from 19 to 21 (that is 2016/current prices from Yamaha's website). Makes me wonder if the 190s are coming up in price a bit (both in/around the 30k mark), and the new 212 Limited would be at that 45k point.
I think in the past we have found they all get a bit more expensive regardless if they have really anything new added/changed from the prior year. I know someone had that broken down year over year, maybe it's in the FAQ somewhere...
I don't know if the 212 Limited would equate to an SX. Take the 24' boats for example. The limited comes with upgraded textures, upholstery and seat cushions on the swim platform. Do we know if the 212SS is staying? If not then I could see the 212 Limited replacing it...but not without a price increase. If that's the case they are further differentiating the gap from 19' to 21' owners and decreasing the gap to 24' boats in terms of features per foot relative to price. Doesn't make a lot of since to me.
I would love to have a cheaper 21' like an X but without ballasts. Basically an AR212 which is just the new forward swept tower and bench seating for less than the X costs.
I also expect he rudder on all models now across the board. Personally I love mine on my 192 and have no issues handling the boat or see a need for additional fins. Tracks straight and can take my hands off the wheel cruising and it carves pretty hard holding its line without spinning out.
Oh I thought that list was all they were bringing out! I agree if there is a time to bring out the TR1 it's now with introductions it in a new revised 21' boats. They've had some time to test the waters with the PWC's. I'd love to see a twin TR1 with new forward tower, no ballasts, no Connext, bench, add the rudder ride plate or full keel hull and some sporty graphics AR.
In order for them to make a dedicated surf boat I think they will need to implement some sort of Wake Wedge to deal with the jet wash and clean up the wake, similar to what Chaparral did.
I think it is pretty unlikely that Yamaha will really try to compete in the surf boat category. Jets just don't have the same push on the water that a high altitude 14" prop can give you especially when you add 2500lbs of ballast on top of a boat that weighs 5000lb, which is what equates to those beautiful surf waves. I think if you want a surf boat, you really should look at a v-drive. There is no better wake sports platform out there. I would like to see Yamaha implement an in-hull ballast system through out the lineup on the AR's though. It's such a smart use of otherwise wasted space bellow the deck. I hate using up storage space for ballast and hate using up precious deck space even more. Wishful thinking as well though I fear.
