JetBoaters.net Bimini Fling July 10th to 15th 2017

I tried to map the route through Lake Okeechobee but Navionics insisted it was too many points to calculate.

Okeechobee would certainly be shorter but I not sure that it would be faster considering the locks.

It might actually be faster to cut across from Ft. Myers.

The simple answer is see it all go the lake coming and take the gulf route back.

Visiting the Keys on the way to Bimini and going back through Okeechobee would avoid burning fuel pushing against the Gulf Stream.

OK....all lots of fun theorizing....but I'll be driving my boat down there....and my brother's buddy....he owns a boat that costs WAY more than my house! LOL....so his lifestyle is a little different than mine. For all I know he'll have a captain sail it there and fly to meet it! LOL

@Julian, this is a 430 mile route from Tampa to Bimini Sands with fuel stops in Naples, Marathon Key and Miami. The time and fuel consumption are based on BoatTest's 20.1 MPH cruising speed at 1 MPG test results. If the water was anything but smooth I would guess that the consumption would double. Seems like a fun trip with likely $5K in fuel burn.

Most would probably opt to go ICW & cut across Lake Okeechobee. Would save a lot of time & fuel.

@OUT ON THE REEF you are making me hungry. my wife loves watching your videos

she expects me to catch lobsters, conch, fish and fry them on the boat! lol

seafood should never be fried.

Are you thinking grilled or ceviche?

We typically grill on the boat but I grew up eating fried fish for one or two meals per day. Might be why we hardly ever fry anything at home. And why I currently have indigestion from eating some amazing fried crappie with my parents that @Emma and @Gavin caught.

Unless it is freshwater fish (catfish, crappie, bluegill etc), seafood should never be fried. I'm more than willing to admit that it's just my opinion, but who really wants to fry a lobster, scallop, tuna, wahoo, Mahi, etc....

You want to taste the item...not grease and flour etc...

If I was gonna eat catfish....fry it all day!

Would you fry a Filet Mignon?
Fried Filet Mignon? Yes butterflied with a super hot cast iron pan and a stick of butter! Heart Attack waiting to happen.

@ClemsonTiger, no objection. We have never fried anything caught in salt water. We grill ours in the boat or on the condo deck.

How would you prepare yours?

@ClemsonTiger, lets go with Yellow Tail Snapper, Ocean Trigger and Lobster. Lobster season is closed while we are there but I am working on a way to have some frozen and waiting for our group.

Mine would get magic salmon seasoning, lime and butter on the grill. You likely have better recipes.

I've been drinking watching hockey and my Caps WIN!!!

So no offense if I caused any

On regards to how I would prepare it...it depended. Not trying to be evasive, but "it" cause "the" response lol.

Broiled, steamed, grilled, seared...etc.

I'm a definite fan of seasoning...just not frying and oil
Caps? Hmmmmm....... My Pens gonna meet yer boys soon! Good luck!

haha not at all, I actually love to snorkel/scuba and itching to get a speargun for just this trip lol

Will you be making the trip with us?

@blacksapphirez

Unfortunately spear guns are NOT allowed.

You must use a Pole Spear or Hawaiian Sling..

And no spearing if you are SCUBA diving....

I thought they were all called spearguns sorry. Will look into the pole spear and hawaiian sling

Offer up and other places have polespears cheaper also if they are around your area. Or a lot of dive shops down here along the way to get one. Florida Freedivers in Lake Park, FL or Drift Freediving in Lighthouse Point, FL. I know both owners and they are great people

The first year i went to Bimini I bought two of them at Bass Pro in Fort Laud.
This was just prior to splashing the boat.
