What are your favorite Smart Phone Apps?

Navionics!! Both iPhone and iPad!
Pocket Universe (star chart thing)
Vessel Finder (switched to after MarineTraffic went commercial)

skyview and ISS finder.

skyview compares he night sky to a map overlay identifying constellations, planets, etc.
ISS finder sends you an alert when the Space station will fly over and points out altitude and course......never gets old to watch

The Chive

and soon...The GoPro app !

The Chive is the first app loaded on any new phone! Must have for me, also fox news app and sports center.

Craigslist Pro - Awesome if you are looking for something, it alerts you when somebody posts it for sale.
Get Altitude - Tells you your current altitude.
Pandora
Banking App - From our Credit Union.
Kelley Blue Book
Timesheet - Use this to keep track of hours/billing for one of my businesses.
I agree with the Craigslist pro. That is a cool one.

Nobody mentioned current caller id . Ids who's calling even cell numbers most of the time. Dolphin for a web browser. Can be set in desktop mode or mobile mode.

My favorite: Find My iPhone...I couldn't find my iPhone one day so I signed into iCloud.com and used Find my iPhone to locate my phone which I had left on my boat. Even if you lose your phone at home and it is set to silent you can play a sound for 2 minutes to locate it. Also can delete all info remotely if stolen and do a few other things.

Also like GPS Drive by Motion X--better than my Garmin

@xoomer have you tried Waze? I don't know anyone who's tried it that didn't love it. Both Taxi drivers I had in Chicago were using it! The GPS arrival times were right on....and factored in Chicago rush hour traffic! End of Waze commercial over (where are my Royalties?) LOL

@Julian I just downloaded it to see how it works...
@xoomer Not that I ever speed, and don't recommend anyone else does...but in the unlikely event that you are in a situation where dangerously exceeding the speed limit becomes necessary, say if you are being chased by a gang of bikers.....Wazers ahead of you can mark where cops or debris in the road is, to make your trip safer.....GRIN

Members can also add roads to the map, so they have the most up to date maps of any system...I think you could add your driveway if you wanted!

Just found ridiculous fishing pretty entertaining / addicting game

Words with Friends
iHeart Radio
Find my phone ( found The Boys phone when someone stole it from the locker room... Had it play a sound and the kid that took it was caught easily. Tracked it and told the police where it was in near real time!)
Google Maps
and.... The Phone!

Just in the process of downloading and trying out Mysms (Android phone users only-but does work on ios tablets). The premise:
  • ever put your phone down when you walk into the house, but sit at the TV with your tablet and your phone bings with a text message
  • same at the office...ever leave your phone at your desk, or its in your pocket, and your laptop is open in front of you?
Mysms claims to sync all your devices to the one SMS account on your phone and notify you and allow you to reply on them all.

I am still trying to determine how it handles international texting....ie, can I use it while in india to text and avoid international texting fees?

I'll let you know how it works!

My fav is ESfile explorer. Lets me transfer files to and from my home NAS. Also aldiko for book reading. My phone spends 90% of its time as an expensive paperback novel. Cam

Good thread for getting ideas. I mainly use:

- Waze for navigation (+ police or radar traps)
- Yelp (restaurants) when visiting other cities and clients
- OneDrive for storing my files in the cloud and being able to access any/all documents from any of my devices
- Shortcut to Jetboaters.net
- Google Play Music, Pandora, Amazon
- Sonos (Whole house audio)
- Mag Light - for when I don't have glasses which is always

My flip phone can not handle apps. My phone is for talking.

Three must haves for ocean boating :

1. Navionics Chart plotter app
2. Yachtweather for wave forecast
3. Bad elf pro GPS to power your iPad and iPhone with navionics app. Better then Garmin chart plotter at fraction of the cost
